Barb, That chick looks Blue to me. I have four of them here colored just like yours.

My latest addition - 5 week old lavender Silkie (from Catdance)

Blue - not Self-blue (lavender) way too dark.

Still wondering if this 4 week old chick is a partridge frizzle silkie mix??? It has black feet and skin, 6 toes and a black beak.

Partridge I think they call them Sizzles - comes from a Silkie/frizzle cochin cross that introduced the frizzle feathering...This one looks like an early generational cross, so will probably not have alot of crest...

Hi All,
I'm a newbie with 4 silkie chicks--black, white, blue, and buff. They're ~ 2 weeks old. They're all supposed to be bearded and do have puffs of down sticking out under their eyes etc.
They are hatchery chicks so I do not expect them to be very good, but hopefully ok looking. I just care about them being nice pets, not show quality.
They're all getting beginnings of feathers on their wings and the white one's are the longest so far. They look like feathers [with barbs] at this point, not "fluff" feathers of a silkie.

Is this just how they start out, or how should/do silkie's first feathers look?

SilverSilkie - question for you -

What do you think of this cockerel?
He come from eggs marked partridge - Suze (SonoranSilkies) earlier on thought he was Splash partridge, then recently said she wasn't sure, and now I really would like your opinion...I'm trying to get an idea of what to breed him to.

Hatched very pale with chipmunk stripes :

at the very beginning when the feathers start erupting out of the quils they do resemble normal feathering, but quickly as they progress you can tell the difference between barbed and silkied...From a hatchery there is always the potential that they may have made a screw up...I've gotten wrong breeds and even definite mixes from a hatchery before, so give it another week, or better yet post pictures!

I'd say its a cockerel but I don't think its a silkie mix at all. Perhaps a Sultan mix? They also have 5 toes and crests. Those pink legs and toes, along with the pink skin at the head don't look like they have any silkie influence at all.....

Quick question.....I have 3 silkies, a splash roo, splash hen, and a black hen. I was told they are a year old and the hens just started laying.....but I have not seen any eggs since I got them about 2 weeks ago. The black hen - Lovely, is very aggressive towards my other hens (white leghorns and red stars), the roo - Prune, is now also aggressive towards the other hens, he does not appear to be trying to mount, just pecking and "kicking", I have one hen who now has a couple of tail feathers missing and a bloody spot at the tail. Do I need to get them seperated again or is this all normal? I kept them seperated completely for several days, then let them all free range together a few days, and 3 days ago I put them all in the same run and house.
