Silkie thread!

SilverSilkie - question for you -

What do you think of this cockerel?
He come from eggs marked partridge - Suze (SonoranSilkies) earlier on thought he was Splash partridge, then recently said she wasn't sure, and now I really would like your opinion...I'm trying to get an idea of what to breed him to.

Hatched very pale with chipmunk stripes :

Here he is at about a month old :

A picture from about 2 months ago : (Notice the light blue splashings in his tail, he also has it in his wings)

Just the other day :

I agree with Suze.
This is how a normal feathered partridge Splash look => the one in the middle.

Quick question.....I have 3 silkies, a splash roo, splash hen, and a black hen. I was told they are a year old and the hens just started laying.....but I have not seen any eggs since I got them about 2 weeks ago. The black hen - Lovely, is very aggressive towards my other hens (white leghorns and red stars), the roo - Prune, is now also aggressive towards the other hens, he does not appear to be trying to mount, just pecking and "kicking", I have one hen who now has a couple of tail feathers missing and a bloody spot at the tail. Do I need to get them seperated again or is this all normal? I kept them seperated completely for several days, then let them all free range together a few days, and 3 days ago I put them all in the same run and house.

Give them a few weeks to settle in. Whenever they experience a stress such as moving, they will stop laying until they get settled in. It varies how long it takes them to get back to laying but I wouldn't expect eggs for the first 3-4 weeks.

As far as running them together, it is usually recommended to quarantine new birds for 30 days before introducing them, to be sure you're not exposing your existing flock to any underlying illness or disease the new birds might be carrying. I have found that space is your friend when integrating. As long as they have plenty of space, I haven't had any issues with aggression in my flock. It is when they are in a confined space that there tend to be issues. Is there a way you can expand their run to give them more space?

Yes, I can expand, thanks for the advice.

Indeed, but also in practice ;-) you will get than 50% Splash partridge and 50% Blue partridge in both sexes.

That is awesome, I have a couple blue partridge girls - now have to wait for the boy to feel manly and do his job! lol

No two doses of blue = splash, so I think to get splash partridge you have to have partridge with two doses of blue - blue partridge X blue partridge is most likely what Sherbert come from. Or possibly blue partridge X blue or splash will give you splash partridge...

I am in lock down with one of my batches of Silkies..I have eggs from 3 different breeders in there! This is going to be fun. I have another bator with 7 lively ones that will go into lock down in a couple of days for the Mother's Day Hatch A Long. I'm in for some fun little fuzzy butts for sure. Oh, also the last ones for the hatch a long is yet another breeder, from here on BYC. :)) I have two from BYC, and two from e-bay breeders. Actually, there are a few showgirls in there..not sure how that works, but hoping I get a couple of showgirls...silly question..why are they called.."show,..girls"... they aren't always girls are they? If they have the bare neck? See, told you, silly question, but had to ask.

I LOVE this guy. I'm in awe every time you share his pictures. If you breed more like him, remember me!
