Silkie thread!

I love the Midwest pens. I used them for my LF chicks last spring and they were in heaven when I took them out for their first sunny day. I scored when I found them for nearly half price at PetSmart, so I picked one up for myself and a friend. This year I'm ordering the cover from Amazon so the silkie chicks and Seramas are safe when I let them outside for a few hours as the days get nicer.

This is last years babies and our Golden Retriever Gryffin getting to know his new charges. He is VERY good with the babies and the big girls!

I just bought five white silkies. They currently reside in a 5 x 5 box in my garage. They are almost ready to move out to the main coop. I see that Debbi in MO keeps Marans as well as Silkies. So do I. Any advice on transitioning my little Silkies into the flock? Do they need a smaller roost? Ramps? Any and all advice is welcome.
I have Marans as well, and would not put them together. The Marans will, even if not on purpose, manage to hurt the silkies just by the fact that they are bigger, & weight more. Silkies don't roost. And if you have a Marans rooster, it will most likely squish a silkie trying to breed it. I wouldn't take that chance.

I love Goldens!! I have one now, had to put one down from old age about a year and a half ago. Man that was hard! Oh, love your chickies too! :))

Wait, Silkies don't roost?? Glad I have a separate pen for them then.

That isn't always true. My Silkies roost... on a milk crate for right now

but I'm working on moving them to an actual roost lol but what I'm saying is, they might roost if you give them one that's low. It's really up to the individual bird.

Oh and btw: I have my Silkies in with my LF birds and they all do fine after the initial settling in period. We only have one bossy pullet and she will be in a new home soon.

Ours roost also. They don't get too high, but they do. I had a picture of them somewhere but I can't seem to find it.

Mine are roosting on a low limbin the crate, but the also go up and down a large ladder with no problems, nd many people say that is a problem. We just put them on the ladder young, and they run and hop up and down it. Like follow the leader!

So this is the new chicky! Do you guys think it's a black one even with it's belly so light? I think my black ones from last year were much darker if I remember correctly.

If I may post more pictures..? lol
I'd like any and all criticism on my blue hen Lila!?
What's good and what's bad?

I realize this is only one picture, I'll take more if anyone would like to see any body parts closer? Do you guys think this one is worth breeding or showing? I would imagine she's definitely a BQ bird? Does not have split wings. She's obviously not her best color at the moment but I'm so glad she's starting to get more "poof" as she gets older!

She is approximately 8 months old now, maybe 7. Not sure.
