Silkie thread!

Please keep your fingers crossed for my hatch.

10 eggs made it to lock down yesterday, one of those was questionable because we couln't see very clearly into the egg.
But still saw veins so we put it in. One of the 11 that were developing died somewhere after day 10 candling. It was a splash.

I am so nervous! I am glad that they are over at a friends house and not here! I would be going absolutely nuts!!
She is going to text me when things start to happen so I can hopefully go over and see.
I don't know how you all do this over and over again.
Although I am now looking at incubators, so what does that say? Lol!

I went into lock down yesterday also with 17. Two looked a bit iffy. It's always stressful but it does get easier! Hope you have a great hatch and find the perfect incubator!

Barn so sorry! Like Peep said, one of the biggest drawbacks. It's soo hard when they have thrived for this long.

Out of 8 white eggs set, this is the only one that hatched and it was SO wanted!! Huge vault (which may be related, I don't know) and fabulous crest already developing. And, of course, friendliest chick in the batch. I think it may be female (based on comparing combs) which breaks my heart even more. Oy. Have to get my big girl pants on ....

So what do you guys think? I am learning this new computer program, I am used to drawing by hand on paper with pencils, so the computer drawing is new to me! This is a half hour doodle I worked on a bit ago trying to work on smoothing and adding detail/texture to my silkie drawings...

C'mon tell me what I need work on! (I know the feet, LOL I hard forgot about the feet until the last minute and got bored. - I know bad Jessy

SOS-- this is gorgeous!! Great job! What program are you using? Corel is my favorite design program. What tool did you use for the lighter/smudged work? Love it! :)

I showed some silkies today (in the junior show) and my blue pullet didn't do as well as she did at the last show(this was my second time showing).
Him at the show:

I think your roo is really quite nice, I'm not sure what the judge was saying. It's really too bad you didn't ask him. We've always talked to the judges after the show is over and talk about pointers and what he wants to see. It is a GREAT idea to do that, so please do that on your next show. I didn't really see his comb well-- is it too red?? It looks mulberry from what I can see, but perhaps the judge thought it was too red?? I think the foot feathering is also really nice-- but does he have fused toes on the right side? Those look closer together than on the left. There could be a lot of things that added up to that critique. His cushion could be a bit fuller.. but still, not bad. And I can't really see his chest to know if it's nice and wide... I really think he looks fine, but like mentioned before, white has super tough competition since there are so many fantastic birds out there in that color. I just really wish we knew what the judge was trying to tell you. Next time!! Ask, then! (after the show, of course)

I have to cull one of my 6 week old Silkie chicks that has a terrible case of crossbeak. This chick started out the biggest and is now the smallest of the group of 12. Both upper and lower beak are badly deformed and terribly misaligned so it isn't able to pick at food properly at all and doesn't seem to be figuring out the scoop method. The chick is at the feed dish all the time - trying. Point is, I HAVE to cull this chick.

And I'm dreading it.

Oh no, I'm sooooo sorry!

Poor little thing, that sounds terrible.

My shipped eggs are starting to hatch today! I have 3 out and 4 more to go out of 12. (7 made it into lockdown) I'm really excited!

I have been really busy! I built this cute little pen under my back deck yesterday! It's been wasted space for a long time and I've tried to grow everything under the sun under there, and nothing grows. I gave up and it was just weeds that had to be pulled and mowed down. No fun. So I came up with this brilliant idea for a grow out pen for silkies!
