Silkie thread!

My little 6 wk old babies got caught in the rain. Thankfully I was not gone long. You would think they would go inside the coop, but the older ones did not and they follow them, so I came home to some drowned chickies. I grabbed three of my 4 silkies (the other was not shivering and drying herself off) and took them inside to blow dry them out (low heat). They acted like they were at a spa...they loved it. Anyway they came out nice and fluffy, so I thought it would be a good time for some pictures. I would love some opinions on their sex. I know it is too early, but I see differences in their combs so my thinking is I have one of each?
So here is Butter on the left and Popcorn on the right ( I think. I cant tell since they are fluffled out...lol)

Give it a couple of more weeks!

Hawk, great idea, looks great too!

Peeps..I now had the same thing happen as you have. I tried to quote Hawks site on the grow out pen...it bounced to the next picture? ?? What?

Question I have two banty little hens and one Silkie hen and ended up with three Silkie Roos, can I just keep all these together or do I need to find a new home for one or even worse two Roos? I don't have another pen to separate. I don't want them to be to hard on my hens the Silkie hen is at the bottom of the picking order. Any thoughts?

Hi. I just got my first pair of silkie chicks on the 12. They where a early Bday present from my best friend. One was buff and the other black. they where two weeks old. Sadly the buff one died on my Bday. the black ones name is Blackberry. At first he was a little lonely but he's getting used to being alone. I make sure to spend lots of time with the little chick, and he is growing very atached to me. I'm not sure if it is a boy or a girl.:jumpy

Sooo sorry to hear about your little buff.

I have to cull one of my 6 week old Silkie chicks that has a terrible case of crossbeak. This chick started out the biggest and is now the smallest of the group of 12. Both upper and lower beak are badly deformed and terribly misaligned so it isn't able to pick at food properly at all and doesn't seem to be figuring out the scoop method. The chick is at the feed dish all the time - trying. Point is, I HAVE to cull this chick. :(  And I'm dreading it. :hit

So sorry! You're doing the right thing.

My shipped eggs are starting to hatch today!  I have 3 out and 4 more to go out of 12.  (7 made it into lockdown)  I'm really excited!

I have been really busy!  I built this cute little pen under my back deck yesterday!  It's been wasted space for a long time and I've tried to grow everything under the sun under there, and nothing grows.  I gave up and it was just weeds that had to be pulled and mowed down.  No fun.  So I came up with this brilliant idea for a grow out pen for silkies!
