Thank you Hawkeye. You said there is a Silky Paint thread? Do you have the url?
Roughage Products, Processed Grain By-Products, Forage Products, Magnesium Mica, Calcium Carbonate, Cane Molasses, Vegetable Oil, Sodium Bentonite.
There is calcium in there too somewhere. I'm just going to feed this to all the Silkies and also, hopefully, prevent the rest of the flock from getting sick.
I really hope...she is a she. There hasn't been any crowing and her comb is basically non-existent. I will try and get a close up of her comb. She is really kinda skittish...once I catch her, she is very friendly thou. I can't tell if its because she can't see well, so she stand behind everyone and waits for treats or what. I thought she would come to me a little easier. My polish chicks just jump up in my lap.
So cute! My silkie is about the same age and looks NOTHING like that. I vow to never buy feed store silkies again.
yes there is a very good thread on it! Start reading from the very beginning because they dive right into the color genetics. Also, Silver Silkie has a site dedicated to colors and I think his site is mentioned in the thread.
Hhmm... well, they must know the right mix, and with the tetracycline, it should not bind. Hope it works out well for you! Good luck with your sick birds!
Looks like a girl right now, it has a nice big round crest. I know that can change, but it's looking kind of girlie. Of course, you might be coming back and telling me it's just a really pretty boy in a couple more months! LOL
I dunno, I think it just varies. The little fat silkie with no hair on its head is from the same breeder. So they just do some really weird things at different stages. Who knows.. maybe some chickens are just destined to be prettier than others...Like people. We can't all be runway models
From the backs of their crests, it's looking kind of girlie. But I don't know if a rooster jumping them would indicate sex at this point, he could be really randy. I've seen a lot of strange things. None of these pictures show us the comb-- to really give you a better idea, you'll need a nice tight head shot with a good view of the comb. (or lack there of) But if you say they are 6 months old, then my guess would be pullets, because they should have streamers by now. But if they have any comb going on-- then I could be wrong. Your 'black' hen looks like Blue.
Here is a face shot on one of the white ones. There is small comb and small waddles. This is one I thought was a rooster forever but never got streamers and squats when the rooster attempts. How old is the average silkie before they start to lay or crow? I am just starting to raise silkies. Is there a site that I can go to to explain breeding/colors? I do want some nice silkies who sells/ships eggs?
I hope they know the right mix. If not, I might have to write them a letter! "Your product did not fix my bird! I want my money back!!"
Thanks for your help!
The black/blue has really small comb and small waddles too. I thought it was blue cause the feathers/fuzz underneath are lighter. The white one I just posted another picture of. Are mine just really slow maturing.
