Silkie thread!

My silkies are terrified of anything that's new. I had the same problem with watermelon in the beginning. :)  Now you know where the phrase "you're just a big chicken!" came from.

Mine are the same way! Yesterday they were given grapes and it took the longest time for them to go near the plate. Once they figured out that the grapes weren't going to jump up and bite them, two of the 7 week olds started to play keep away. One would run around with a grape in its mouth until the other grabbed it away and ran in the opposite direction! They did for a few minutes and it was so cute. Tina G

I can't keep track of who has what colors but if your bird is white (like mine) the blue you are referring to is her ear lobes I believe and as far as I have gleened from the thread, it doesn't mean boy or girl, just part of the coloring on the white ones. This is our first silkie so if I have gotten this wrong, someone please correct me. I don't know if it stays with them but it is one of my favorite parts of my bird.
All silkies regardles of the color, bearded or non bearded should have blue ear lobes and 10 toes

Also they should have mulberry - black colored wattles and combs , walnut shaped to be showable.

Is this right exsperts ?

I love the blue ears! lol...I never saw them until I picked her up to clip her feathers around her eyes. I've held her, pushed the feathers back from her eyes several times, but never noticed the blue. I like it. :)

And yes, she has ten toes, but only 5 on each foot.

And just for fun here is my Columbian Silkie, he is 3 months old. Anyone else working with this color???

My DD had a couple of friends over yesterday and invited "her" 8 week old Silkie Lucille, to visit with the girls as well. Lucille was of course, a big hit. She seemed to take it all in stride which was pretty amusing to me.

Here is "Lucille's visit with the ladies" in photo progression.

Group photo - My DD Lily is on the right. "Lucille" is sitting on the lap of the girl on left, engaged in her visit.

Sitting prettily with girlfriends.

But all that petting felt soooo nice, that soon -

It all became just too relaxing -

And Lucille checked out for awhile... shhhh....

I love it when they collapse with peaceful joy!
