Can anyone tell me about this coloration?
It was very hot when I took the pictures and the chicks like to let their wings droop out in the heat. How can I tell if she has a wing problem myself? What do I look for?
By the way, I would never ship any of my silkies-even in "perfect" weather. I've only sold to local buyers that have to stay in the front yard or the garage-LOL.
Hi all! New owner of silkies here. Bought a one year old hen,but didn't want her to be the only one of her kind, so bought 6 more babies. I was so excited when I bought them that I didn't even ask how old they were. Here are some of the six. Can you give me an idea how old they might be? I'm guessing 4 - 6 weeks maybe??? And the colors ???
This appears to be a partridge, not blue partridge. Look at the black head....![]()
Greta (white) #3 and Phyllis (blue partridge) #2
It's the lighting I think. It's a very dark blue. This appears to be a partridge, not blue partridge. Look at the black head....

Oh I like it SILKIES FOR DUMMIES, that would be cool !Help! What's a good book for a Silkie enthusiast looking for more education on the breed, colors and breeding?
On the American Silkie Bantam Club they're selling the "The Silkie - Not Your Average Pet" http://www.americansilkiebantamclub.org/books.asp
What does this book have in it?
What about "The New 2010 Standard of Perfection" on the American Poultry Association website? How much Silkie information does this book have?

I'm looking for something simple...idiot proof. lol Something that will help me understand the DQs in a Silkie, things that are good to have (and not DQ). Color definitions etc.. Hope I make some sense?
This picture is a bit older. She has darkened somewhat, but certainly not 'black'Strange, looks like a different bird. I wouldn't think the lighting would affect only the head...yep you're right looks more blue in second pic.
