Silkie thread!

Okay, I promised PeepBlessed a show report!

We took several of our silkies and we did end up with one of ours doing really well. We had other VERY nice silkies there too, so it was tough competition.

she is looking kind of droopy here because of the heat, so her wings and tail are hanging down. The judging was done early in the morning before it got hot and she was a lot happier and perky then. I didn't think to take a picture until it was afternoon. Sigh.

so like to introduce my 1st hatch the fluffy butt gang (eggs from Angie @ flowsrus)


the little showgirls both bearded and bow tied... thinking black maybe dark blue (you silkie experts and guesses?)


my early bird.. only one with no foot feathering but besides that i may just keep if its a girl cause every time i walk into the room she runs to the edge of the brooder jumping for me to pick up... the only one who cares for me lol ... lavender or light blue?

these two I'm thinking possible buffs they have a reddish tint I've never seen them so tiny before so not sure which colors are which so I'm guessing... don't mind to be corrected

white or Isabel/ porcelain.... I'm thinking white...

the partridge...it has a slight stripe down its back ... and has real nice vaulted skull

they don't got names yet... pretty sure only gonna keep 1 or 2, it was more for the experience, but i will say even though it was very nerve wrecking i loved it... my girls got to see most of them hatch it was truly an experience i like to have again :] and soon lol ( not only do i need a silkie obsession support group I'll be needing one for incubating)

Your chicks are adorable! It may be your flash but the colors are a bit hard to determine. The ones you called buff look like they also have blue in them. Is that right? I'm pretty sure the bare legged one isn't a pure silkie but it sure is a pretty color. The white one could be white or splash. Whites usually have a bit of a yellow cast and splash are white or pale, pale blue. The bottom one looks like it may be blue partridge. The showgirls are either black or drk. blue.

EEK i found 2 silkie eggs one in the nest box and another in one of the chicken houses which can only mean that one of my silkies laid her 1st egg today... on her 5 month birthday... its such a shame that i don't know which one i'm gonna have to watch from a far tomorrow to see who goes inside lol or perhaps i'll post up a video camera

Thanks! I've been working really hard on my silkies and at a recent show we even took RV white with one of our cocks. I googled silver gene but didn't see much so I'll do a search on here too.

Peep... Didnt use a flash, felt it washed them out so i used natural light... Could the buffs be porcelian? The eggs were silkie/showgirl eggs all pure silkies kept in the pins... the colors that could possible hatch were listed ( black, blue, buff, white, porcelian, isbella, lavender, partridge, black/lavender) lol guess will just have to see how they change within a week or too... But yeah the buffs have a little blue in them ( just went and double checked)

That is so cool! Can I ask you where you got that white jacket your son is wearing? I want to get my son one.

I bought it several months ago, and now I don't remember where I got it. But I just googled children's lab coats and this same coat popped up on several medical sites. I found the cheapest price and then had them do 2 lines of embroidery. I had my son's name and his 4-H club name put on above the pocket in green thread--- for 4-H!

Thank you! Believe it or not, this is the same bird you and I have been discussing! She has filled out more in the last two weeks since I last sent you a picture! Although, her cushion has still not really come in. Had her cushion really been in, she could have done even better.

LOL!! Totally! He is all business when he does his Showmanship. We've been doing flashcards, lots of practice run-throughs on mock judging, caging, etc. He was ready to go!

Your silkie avatar looks identical to mine in every way but colour! He has the same stance, build, feathers and comb. Of course I'm biased, but he's adorable

Excuse his lack of tail feathers. Jagger (BR roo) ripped them all out. They are finally growing back.

Yeah, you're right! They could be brothers, only different colors. lol They even have the same dark areas, like the wings, tail feathers and some on the head. lol
