Silkie thread!

Okay, I promised PeepBlessed a show report!  :D   We took several of our silkies and we did end up with one of ours doing really well.  We had other VERY nice silkies there too, so it was tough competition.

she is looking kind of droopy here because of the heat, so her wings and tail are hanging down.  The judging was done early in the morning before it got hot and she was a lot happier and perky then.  I didn't think to take a picture until it was afternoon.  Sigh.

Congratulations! The photos bring back nice memories of when my kids were in 4H. When my son was a Cloverbud it seemed like his rabbits were almost as big as he was! :D

Peep... Didnt use a flash, felt it washed them out so i used natural light... Could the buffs be porcelian? The eggs were silkie/showgirl eggs all pure silkies kept in the pins... the colors that could possible hatch were listed ( black, blue, buff, white, porcelian, isbella, lavender, partridge, black/lavender) lol guess will just have to see how they change within a week or too... But yeah the buffs have a little blue in them ( just went and double checked)
Thanks for your input

If that is the right color they maybe Isabel/porcelain. Lavender chicks are born pale blue or silver so maybe you can tell if you have one. If you can, send the photos to the breeder and get her feedback. :)

Thank you! Believe it or not, this is the same bird you and I have been discussing! She has filled out more in the last two weeks since I last sent you a picture! Although, her cushion has still not really come in. Had her cushion really been in, she could have done even better.
Wow! She did fill in! Isn't that the one you were worried about wings?

Love to get some opinions of the gender of my Butter. This does have a single comb and not a walnut, so if you think you see a single one you do. I am selling this one and wanted to make sure I have sexed it correctlly or if there is any possibility different than what i told the person. I would really like to get as many opinions as possible.

awwww, good memories, then! I'm getting to relive my own 4-H childhood memories! LOL I grew up with white crested black Polish that my dad raised. I used to show them. I never had rabbits, but I sure wanted one! We are seriously considering getting a show rabbit for next year. So funny about your son! You must have had a really large sized rabbit!

YES!! And her wings are looking a bit better, but they are still kind of ify, too. I did talk with the judge and there is actually a call out in the SOP for where the split lies and where it is fine and where it is not. Apparently, the axial feather is kind of the cut off. (middle feather that separates the primaries from the secondaries). Anyway, the judge wasnt too concerned with hers right now. But if she grows out with them continuing to look like this, then yeah, it's a problem. Oh, and I was shown on her wings where there are pin feathers coming in where the possible "split" is. This is why he wasn't too concerned, because he felt to check that and when he saw those, then I guess deemed her okay. Sooooo.... wait and see! But she is turning out beautifully! But still, her cushion hasn't fully come in, but her rear is looking better than 2 weeks ago. Amazing how fast they change.

How old is this bird? I'm guessing pullet. Beautiful bird, what a shame about the single comb.

Saturday she will be 14 weeks. I told the person girl as well. The other white chick I got at the same time is a boy. Walnut (some hints of red), waddles, and crowing... I wanted to keep her to breed her to a boy paint (if I have one in the bunch), but with the single comb I will have to let her go. Her soon to be new owner is very excited about her.

EEK i found 2 silkie eggs one in the nest box and another in one of the chicken houses which can only mean that one of my silkies laid her 1st egg today... on her 5 month birthday... its such a shame that i don't know which one i'm gonna have to watch from a far tomorrow to see who goes inside lol or perhaps i'll post up a video camera

Congrats! I cannot wait for my hen to lay....any day now.

Congratulations! So exciting and it looks like you guys had a fun time!

I was thinking back about something that I said about my chicks that were recently hatched. I referred to them as having vaulted skulls. I was incorrect in saying so, what I meant was that they were crested. I did receive my eggs from Golden Egg Farm and I did just want to clarify that. I am sorry for the mix up in terminology.

Kate's birds throw some beautiful chicks and I definitely want MORE!
