First time posting in this part of the forum... i have a new little Silkie flock and cant wait for them to grow up a bit. Trying to decide who is girls and boys. Some are way to young for that but I have 3 that are 8 weeks old. Any opinions ?

and two pics of another I am assuming is a boy :)

and then there is my little Sizzle :)

I have a calico question... I may have an opportunity to get a calico rooster and I'm not familiar with this color. Is this a difficult color to breed? Is calico bred to calico?

your sizzle. I have tried twice now to get a sizzle(has to be girl with space and ration numbers) and yet to succeed. Got one it was a boy and have two frilkies.

I just read the talk about the lavender partridges.

Here's my two.

Micah is from Catdance lines, and Chloe is from Bobbi Porto lines.
I believe Bobbi also told me Chloe would be a lavender partridge.

We're expecting babies this Monday!
Chloe *should* be the mom, since my other girl has been molting.

The carving in the wood is just to cute for words. Ahhhh chicken love. Photo is perfect!!! There have been sooooo many great photos lately.

Your chick looks like a pretty swan in the 4th picture.

We had a blue splash silkie named Mohawk too. Unfortunately we had to sell him because he was a HE! Our splashes are really easy to sex because they get grey/black streamers that show up in strong contrast against their lighter base feathers. Your "Mohawk" is a little more challenging because the feathers are the same color throughout. It would help to know the age and see a closeup of the comb.
Here is one of my chicks ~ Mohawk
Can anyone tell me if it is a girl or a boy? Also, can you tell me if it has some good qualities?

SORRY THE RED TINTED FEATHERS ON IT'S FEET ARE FROM OUR GEORGIA CLAY, LOL

i am going to build a coop but don't have a lot of room for a run. any tips on how to keep the grass growing and healthy? i thought maby if i only let them out every other day and on nice days, and keep them in on days when it is pouring rain. i could maby also provide them with lots of tasty treats to maby minimize grass eating. i could also clean up some of the poop and give a break now and then with some grass seeds planted. maby once a month for five days.

Back when I would let my girls out, they were only allowed to roam twice a week max; up to five hours at a time. One key would be to have a dirt area where they can dig around and dust bathe. That should distract them from your grass a bit.
