Silkie thread!

Thank you so much. We hand made the door and my son did the scroll work. Those are suns at the top, rooster heads in the middle and rooster tails on the bottom. I will keep adding details and cuteness to the coop!
You should seriously consider selling those doors. I would buy one in a heartbeat!

ETA: And it would be for our human house!

Haven't been on for a while..how are you feeling peep?

Have a question...on toe nails! First I will post a picture of my girls, I haven't in a while, and I think my blue splash is close to laying. She has gotten kind of purtty if I say so myself. :))

I just trimmed around their eyes yesterday. That splash gets
so thick around her face. Very pretty, but she can't see, and
she shakes her head a lot..not a very professional job, but she
can see. :)

Check out those toe nails! I've had chickens with crooked
toes, but never nails!

They are way long too..I have a pretty good set of doggy clippers
would that do?

I just got some silkies myself and love them. They are babies right now but one is partridge and one is blue or black. I don't have any good pictures of them yet. But i was told you can tell a silky when it has 5 toes, is this true?

When I hear the name Delilah, I think of that radio personality that is all sappy and about love stories.

thank you for the Delilah link I used to love to Listen to her when my Daughter lived in Rickmond VA NOW i HAVE AN ONLINE LINK.

Some of my silkie's 4th and 5th toes are quite fused like this buff, while some are more spaced like this blue. Is one more desirable than the other? Would this buff one have points taken off or not be as perfect as a similar bird with better toe spacing?

Is this genetic or caused by something else?
I have a couple of chicks with feet like this also. Came out of eggs I ordered and let the broodies hatch.

I use my cat nail clippers on the chickens as well. In my opinion they work fine. Just be careful not to cut too much.

You are correct and silkies do have 5 toes. Welcome to BYC and the silkie thread! This is a great place for you to learn about the breed.

One of my 12 week old Silkies crowed yesterday! I have too many roosters now and I already sold 6 other roosters!!! This Silkie makes 6 roosters I have right now and most of them have to go.

Here are some of the others. And I am worried that the other 2 Silkies may be roosters also.

Here is our new coop. They just moved in on Saturday. We have had ridiculous amounts of rain here all this month because they were supposed to move in weeks ago. Can't put on a metal roof when it is thundering and lightning. But I love the coop that we built. Now after most of the roosters are gone, I will be getting some more Silkies. I want all different colors.

Love your coop!! So sorry about the rooster trial. Sure hope you get some girls!!
