Silkie thread!

While these aren't technically pure silkies, they are being mothered by a silkie so I'm helping you all can help as this is my first round of chicks. My daughter's silkie, Pearl, went horribly broody. I just couldn't break her of it no matter what I did. I mean, she was stealing landscaping rocks, toys, and other eggs and trying to hatch them. I finally decided to just let her have babies. I didn't have any fertile eggs, but knew someone with day old cochin x silkies. My question is (sorry for the long background info) what color will the dark one be? They seem to have picked up mostly cochin traits; 4 toes and single combs. She is lighter on her underside, kind of a yellow. I was thinking splash or blue...but I don't know what these colors look like as chicks.

Ummm...been a while since I have been on here. Where is the add a picture option. -sigh- Sorry guys...Hold on I will figure it out.

Sorry guys...refreshed the page and now all my editing tools are here. This is a picture of Pearls chicks. Wondering what color the dark one will be.

Also...she is a VERY happy mama now. She actually gets up to eat and seems so much happier.

Peepblessed,
This is the one that came out of the lavender egg. It seems that from all the eggs that I got only 2 b/s (came out to be both splashes) and a Porcelain (which I will have to sale it has all its 10 toes but 4 in one side and 6 in the other

) came out to be what the egg said.

And here are the rest

Also she said her blacks weren't laying so I didn't get any black eggs. BUT I think I have a black one

The one in front to the left. Ill take better pictures tomorrow.

Oh, that's weird about the toes! That chick does look black but did you get any paint eggs? They can be black. Cute babies!!

Good news! My girl Isabel (my avatar) finally started laying today! I have been waiting for her for the past month. My other hens have been laying and I recently put their eggs in the bator to see how the chicks turn out, but I really wanted to hatch eggs from Isabel.
I watched her all morning going in and out of the coop, in and out of the nest boxes, finally an egg shows up on the ramp of the coop.
There was some blood on the egg when I found it. Should I be concerned?

Congrats!! First eggs almost always have some blood smears. Not a problem. :)

I have been neglecting this thread

Peepblessed - I have this one silkie chick (4 weeks) that I am keeping an eye on to see if the beak is really a good indicator (early on) of gender.

I don't really look at beaks til 8 - 9 weeks because they change shape. That chick sure has some fluff! :D

Ill try in post better pictures today. No, no paint eggs. I got some lav, por ,b/s. One Porcelain hatchery. 2 b/s abd tge rest are lavender. I talked to" kelar" she sait they might be split do I got different colors. But the lighter blue/gray one i would like to know exactly what color it is. Its turning a light gray color. At what age can it be a definitely thing of knowing what color it will be?

Too adorable!
I was able to get a few shots of my new fluffy butts that my motherly hen Ms. Rumpy has dutifully taken responsibilty for raising. Here they are! The one in the back is really shy so I can't get a good picture of "her" (hoping they are both girls....)

I know it may be too early for colors, but any ideas? If they are hens, color doesn't matter to me, but if one or both are roos, and decent quality, I can only have whites... :(

Question? What color would a silkie be if it's born a light blue almost gray coat to them? Would it be a blue or Lav or something else? I have a blue hen that looks black but has the blue fluff and she was darker blue growing up any ideas? Here is a pic of her

But the blue i hatched yesterday is soooo light in comparison i just don't know,

Is it light like these guys?

They're both blue.

One of them turned out like this.
