Silkie thread!

Here are some of my babies that hatched over the weekend. Can anyone tell me what the two tone one would be color wise? I bought these eggs from a person here at BYC. The batch consisted of BBS, W, Splash., Black, Blue and Buff out of 17 eggs 6 hatched the eggs were marked with their colors and from what i supposedly hatched i got 3 Buff 1 Blue and 2 white but one of them is two toned so not sure what happen there lol. Any thoughts??

Girl i am not an expert at all LOL this is my third hatch and the first one was an epic fail! Second i got 2 to hatch and this time 6 so i am getting better but i will tell you it's a hell of a learning curve and i did not have any detached air cells this time but on the second run i did and only 2 hatched. From what i read on that you need to let them sit for a couple days with the air cell up and give them time to reattach then incubate and i did do that and they did do well but my issues seem to stem from humidity control in my hatch so i don't think it was the air cell problem but humidity. They did develop but were early quitters. Keep reading and learning and you will get there the only reason i did this third time is cause the person i got the eggs from the second time gave me these to try again due to the only survivor having 6 toes instead of 5 which i thought was nice. All of these babies are correct with 5 toes so i am happy but it was not easy and i am done for this year as far as hatching for sure. I will try again in the spring with some of my layers mutt eggs and get better at it before i buy any more expensive eggs. It's by trial and error i am afraid. Good luck with your hatch and i hope you do better than i have first time around.

That's why I wanted to see if it can be done any earlier

So lets just assume this is a boy right now. We'll see if the beak looks more feminine at that age.
This one is very nosey. My girls aren't usually this friendly at this age.

One of these days someone will find a way to sex early. Maybe you! I tried mapping newly hatched comb shapes to see if there was a correlation. Didn't help....

what humidity have you run at? and what state? Humidity sucks, perhaps I just overthink everything!!

Yes it does! i did learn that humidity varies from state to state for sure! I talked to a breeder here and was told that 45% from day one to lock down is ideal and 50 to 65% in lock down and so far a did have my best hatch that said though i lost most of them because i had to do the OMG do not open the bater thing LOL. I had a chick that pipped and zipped in 20 min and had not absorbed the yolk sac so i waited and waited then it popped it and well i panicked and took him out. Well when i did that i compromised the rest of them and the chick ended up dying anyway so my dumb luck. That said DO NOT OPEN no matter what! If the chick dies it dies. If i had left that one i would have had a better hatch rate and would have not had to assist the others out of the egg. I learned a lot on this hatch trail and error. Is was my urge to help the poor wounded chick that killed the one's that had not hatched so i ended up with six. I eggtopsied that ones that did not hatch and found them to be ready but a bit shrink wrapped and that was due to me opening the incubator they would have probably hatched on day 22. Live and learn sigh...
