Silkie thread!

I usually find what it means is................................"thanks, you're holding him down for me, now I can go in for the kill!!!"

Whenever I pick up a roo and there's another in the pen, it frequently will try to go for it.  I don't know if they think it's their chance or they think the roo becoming airborne is trying to jump and spur them.  This is only true if there is some "bad blood" already between them.  I have some pens where the roos are very docile and I never see any posturing between them.  And my experience here is not really with silkies.  My silkies are all pretty docile other than the normal chest bumping between male chicks.

I have a sizzle that thinks as soon as I catch a hen, I am holding her down for him to mount. He's crazy. I love the guy though. He's 4 years old, and a very clumsy mater. Only a few hens like him. Everyone else (including the roosters) peck him like crazy, so he has to be separated.

I give him a conjugal visit every couple of days

I thought it was me. I guess I'll just keep a eye on him and see how it goes. He is my hens favorite Rooster she runs from the other Roo to him. Hate to part with him. I'll see how it goes.
Thanks for your input.

It may be the rooster he is trying to attack. If he doesn't attack you any other time, that would be my guess :)

He's fine any other time, just when I mess with the other Roo. He doesn't even seem to mind when I pick up the hen. He is about six or seven months old, still young. Maybe he'll get better as he gets older? They're all still going thro the pecking order.

This kind of behavior is very common with many of my boys but usually it's hen or roo being picked up. Some do get a little aggressive. I hold them down until they stop struggling and do that every time they show any annoyance. That has worked for me.

Just grab him and hold him to the ground on his back?

I just push him straight down but flipping him over might actually be better as the whole point is to show you are the dominant bird in the flock. :D

It's kind of funny, my HUGE Faverolle boy gives me less attitude than my silkie boy. So much attitude from such a little chicken! Lol!:D

My silkies scratched the crap out of their run, they love to scratch just as much as the rest of em! So it is just dirt now. I did put some tasty plants growing on the outside of the coop, so they can pick at whatever grows inward. They like the mint plants =)

ahaha, thanks for the help though, so ill just put them in with my other hens and just extend the run.

One of my Roo will will peck and jump at me if I pick up and mess with the other Roo. Is this just normal behavior wanting to protect his flock? Or do you think he's getting aggressive? Any thoughts?
I've read when a Roo is lifted by a human it is showing that Roo that the Human is Dominant... perhaps the grounded Roo is taking advantage of the lifted Roo's submission. Also If a Roo challenges you, you should never back away... go forward and plunk him if ya can...also Hold the Bossy Roo Often to show him You're The Boss. If the behavior continues.... most would send him Away or to Freezer Camp...Ha
