I'll be getting two silkies today :D So excited~ First time with silkies anything I should know, heat problems and such!! and how often would they lay eggs, they'll be 5 weeks, so I know I will be waiting a while for their eggs Already have a name picked out! Gonna name one Hedwig not sure other names~
They are more susceptable to the heat than the cold from what I've heard. Lots of ventilation in the summer. They are loves and you will enjoy them so much.

OK I Who is this CatDance and where do I get a hold of CatDance?

Kris ~ you must!!! So wonderful these eggs were. I got 10 ~ 2 were not fertile, 1 was a quitter, and 1 fell out of the nest and broke but was living so I had 6 hatch under my broody hen. I am so excited about my silkies and to travel from WA to GA that was a great hatch. Can you stick them under a hen. I am convinced that the hatch rate is much better than what I am reading on forums with incubators. My mystery chicks from the poultry show hatched today. I had 6, 3 were not fertile and 3 were...all 3 hatched under my broody hen. I'm loving my results using God's way. Let me know when you get them

I agree. Oh, I thought that she said by the time the show came around it would be six months.
You could be right. I just remember reading 6 months.

SEE I know nothing, hahaha ~ I learned something today and that is great. I appreciate all the experts who share their knowledge, charts, descriptions, and everything else with us to make us all better chicken lovers. Like I said Curly is beautiful no matter what color he is

Oh, I learn new things here all the time.

I'm on my second year of chickens myself and most of what I know, I learned from all the great people here at this forum.

New to Silkies...well, I've tried before but had bad luck. My first hen was a splash Silkie, and I didn't know I shouldn't just have one. She seemed depressed. I got her some friends but they didn't like each other. Then she just died :-( In her nesting box. I only had her about 2 weeks and I felt awful. One of the friends I had gotten her was a 3 m.o. white silkie, the other was a light brahma, same age. The silkie, Sally, turned out to be a Sal and I didn't think I wanted a rooster so I rehomed him, and had to let the light brahma go with him because they were best friends, and I never want to leave or send out a chicken without a childhood friend after what happened to my first girl (I think she died of depression).

Anyway, now I am hatching Silkie eggs, and I'm wondering if you can help me tell what they should look like as babies. There are paints and lavenders, but I imagine the lavenders won't ALL hatch lavender, right? And even if they will be lavender, what color should they be as babies? I know the paints are yellow, but will they already have their little spots? I have one that hatched (my broodie is two days ahead of the bators), and it's yellow but with a little black smudgy on its head. There are also b/bl/splah eggs, and splash eggs, which I have tried to separate but they may hop around when they hatch. There are about 30 of them. First one pipped this morning. I'm rambling, sorry sorry sorry, it's my first hatch. Oh help...

I see you have Catdance babies!!! I got one Lavender out of my 10 eggs from Karen. I think it's so pretty and have named it Violet. Don't know what I'll change that to if it's a boy, haha. I got one splash she had the egg marked b/s. Such a cutie pie. When I ordered my eggs there were no paints but one day I will have a paint. I also got a buff, porcelain, partridge, and black. Post pictures when they hatch and welcome!!!

One of my mystery chickens hatched over night and the other two have pips! I wasn't expecting anything until Sunday! Here it is so...................What do I have with this 4 toed cutie???

(Sorry so blurry I was in a hurry.)

So itty bitty my Silkies are quadruple this size.

Second one born has a feathered foot and smallest chick born.

All yellow with darker yellow on wings, pink feet

The egg on left is smaller than the other two eggs and I believe that is the egg the smallest chick came from.

So does anyone have a guess as to what breed of chicks I have?
