I'm sure this has been asked many many many times, but how do you get Calico? I am sure it is a specific genetic code... I have some telling me that any multicolored silkie (white, blue, buff, isabelle/peach ) = a calico. I don't think that is the case , correct?
I have 2 splash chicks that have a isabelle like peach color and buff cropping up in them as they are feathering out. Thus where my wonder of how you get calico, and also #2 - where does the extra color suddenly spring from in the splashes of mine? Just buff in the bloodline somewhere? Gold leakage period thats it?

I have had 2 people tell me this as well, one swears by it. I am waiting to see if it proves true or not. I think the one who swears by it says the V marks a boy and the rounded marks a girl. SO I am waiting to see how my bunch turn out and if it is true or not.
I have both males and females that have combs that are tight to the head at the top, and both boys and girls that are not (essentially, the comb extends upwards of where the attachment to the head ends). I've never noticed any with V-like attachments.
I've noticed this but not at the top of the head... where the comb starts on the beak they seem to either be an inverted 'U' or an inverted 'V'. I've wondered the same thing but haven't bothered to track any of my birds and see what the outcome is. I have also noticed that the juvies with the inverted 'V' do act more 'rooish'.

I need help guys...I have a tiny black silkie hen who I noticed this morning was just getting shoved around in her run but the roo and other two hens. She did not seem very active when I took her out her crop feels almost empty and she seems weak. I looked her over no signs of anything vent looks good her poo looks good and she is eating and drinking but she is all puffed up and seems to walk like a duck wattling from side to side.
