That little black blob is my coop haha! That is the run, it is 3 ft tall on the sides and the snow is almost to the top Watching the snow, and probably saying "HA HA" to Toulouse and Nori

When it is that cold do you have anything that keeps them warm?

Silkie/sizzles --- I have 5 chicks 5 weeks old. They are all growing but one. I see her eat, but she isn't much bigger than she was at 2 weeks. She is a silkie. I have 2 sizzles that are growing like crazy!! She used to be the same size as one of the sizzles- now its 1/3 the size. Should I worry? She acts normal, but she seems to be a late- bloomer in the wing- flapping dept.

I saw the pics and I would say the others may be cockerels. They will have more dramatic growth spurts. My Silkie cockerel at around 8 weeks sprouted way bigger than the rest of them.

Are the sizzles crossed with LF? If the silkie is pure but the sizzles are crossed with a larger breed that would be why they are larger.

No, just deep shavings and a little insulation in the coop.
I'm hoping to get a silkie fairly soon, and I was just wonder, are there ANY cons to having a silkie?
They can be fragile so keeping them with LF may not work out, they are more succeptable to head injuries. They like to stand in the rain and if they are still when and the temperature drops they can get sick/die, their feathers don't wick off water like a normal feathered bird. They can't see predators well and are small enough for hawks to get them even full grown. If you can manage these things then your all set.

Has anyone tried the agway brand of poultry feed? I am looking at the gamebird and turkey grower feed, it has 21% protein. BUT, I really want a soy free food, and possibly organic if I can find it. Also no marigold. Any suggestions? I don't want to use Purina, I do not like them. I am a huge stickler on what my animals eat and I work for an all natural and holistic dog and cat food company so I am always looking at ingredients.

yes, I use Southern States from agway. They are on layer feed crumble now. I have had no problems @ all with the food. I also suppliment with BOSS and a little cracked corn. I dont use oyster shell and their shells are hard and never had a problem with soft shells. I do not have silkies yet, these are my standards. I think this food has soy in it though not crazy about that. Havent found anything better, thats not sky high in price though.
