So if I wanted to try and keep a small flock of Silkies to do work as my incubators and brooders, who is the best go to person in the Pacific NW? I know way back in the day Doddie Truedson and Marge Best had some great silkies, but that was then as they say, this is now. Are those still good people to talk to or?
Thank you, I will check into that. Still researching how efficient they would be, but the idea of using silkies as incubators and brooders holds a lot of appeal to me for many reasons.
Very nice chick! Love the color!
I would wrap those eggs in tin foil and blankets to keep them warm. Probably safe. Need a better photo to tell color of chick.Hi, need advise, a workmate of mine who got infected with "silkiemania" by the time I did about 7 months ago (actually I infected him) just hatched his first egg 3 days ago, the problem is that the hen went out of the nest today leaving 7 eggs behind, we wonder if the eggs could be spoiled, is it normal they have not hatched 3 days after first and only one did? by candeling we noticed that they look like the ones in the photos in this forum around 18 days ( thats ok cause they were supossed to hatch next sunday), a hen of mine is broody but no eggs and we are considering taking the eggs home with me and see what happens. what do you think? shouldnt we move them 15 miles? if alive how long can they resist without mom s heat? we are very distressed by this situation and no idea what to do...![]()
By the way here is a photo of the poor little lonely chicken, I know it is not a good photo but any idea of what the resulting color could be?
