i just shipped for the first time last yr and it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be

Another one of my silkies went broody today

. That makes 4 silkie pullets (out of the 6 that are of age) broody. And none of them are over a year old. My egg production has cut down to 1-2 eggs per day from the silkies. Lazy girls are probably just trying to get out of laying

I'm growing out 4 chicks from my current breeder pen and seeing how they turn out. The quality of those chicks will determine if this is the group I want to stick with for breeding. If they turn out well, I may actually start hatching from this group in earnest. Right now all silkie eggs are slated for breakfast

I'm letting the silkies that are broody hatch out turkey eggs from my pair (they're my newest addictions) and eggs from my LF egg laying breeds.
