Silkie thread!

is there anyone who had faced crooked neck silkie and she/he recover?

i have 3 silkies, their age is around 4 months...one of them have crooked neck from 4 days, i have read to give him vitamin E with selamine..i m giving this..my question is how long he will time to recover?

second question is do i have to give or do something else as well to help him recover soon?

and third question is can i put him wth others or i have to put him separate?

hope to get answers soon

Has it had it since it was 4 days old or had it for 4 days? With wry neck you want to seperate it, and yes give the vitamin E and SELENIUM. Did someone give you a dosage? Also make sure it is eating and drinking, and you can add Poly-vi-sol without iron(baby vitamins) to the water and hard boiled egg yolk to the food.

his age is 4 to 5 months and he is experiencing the crooked neck from last 4 days...its eating and drinking alot as he eats and drinks alot from 1st day thts why his growth is much more than others, i m giving multivitamin as well in which vitamin E is added but not selenium. Actually, my chicks multivitamin course was already going when i saw him crooked neck...today i give him vitamin E with selenium seperately first time, vitamin E is in capsule and selenium is in liquid form. i planned to break the capsule and put selenium in it...mix and put it in the syringe and shower it in the sick chick's mouth but the vitamin E is in gel form as it was not injecting in the syringe. so i put a drop of selenium in it, out some water and let the chick drink...he drink it but not all but atleast something he drink...i m very much in tension tht he will become ok or.....

I've had my Catdance cock with a trio of pullets for two months. I've got two broody hens setting on some and I put eighteen in the incubator. I have two more White boys waiting in the wings to mature a bit before giving them a go. This one cockerel is Sheryl Butler breeding. I hatched him out on Dec. 31, 2012. He is only six and a half months old! Hes been crowing since four months old and trying to breed since five. He is rough and inexperienced with the girls but his type is so spectacular I'm switching out with the Catdance boy. He needs a rest anyway. Took him out of the pen as is. Dirty and and broken foot feathering. Still....I am so happy with the way he is coming along. Meet Mr. Big Foot. Named by my then two year old Grandson. His cushion has been trimmed. I'm really looking forward to chicks by this guy.
the pics are great...seems pics from heaven....

Thank you cuteubbi. Truly. I take dozens of pictures of my birds as fast as I can at one go then I use Picasa to crop and export my favorites. I was blessed with a very cooperative Silkie for this setting. He was so happy to be out of his pen and hens were behind me in the yard. He was showing off. Hah!

So we are very new to the whole world of chickens so excuse me if I'm sounding dumb here. I have 7 chicks that we have had since there were a day old. 4 are Brahmas and 3 are silkies. They are now 14 weeks old.
About 2 weeks ago we notice that our black silkie (Potato) was getting combs. More on her bottom than upper, but a little on the top of her beak. I thought then, uh oh I wonder if she is a he?
This morning when I let them out of their coop, I most definitely here a crowing coming from the run! I didn't see who did it but all bets are pointing to Potato.
We aren't supposed to have roosters but these chickens are pets and family friends to us so I would like to try and keep her/him. So here in lie my questions:
1. How loud do silkies crow? We aren't super close to my neighbors but we are close enough that it makes me nervous.
2. Besides the crowing what else should I expect from Roo behavior?
3. If I did have to rehome him would it upset the other chicks? They seem to be a really close bunch, sleeping and going every where together.
4. Is there anyway to prevent them from having little chicks (yup I know that's a dumb question!)

Thanks, I'll try and get a picture of our Potato tonight.
The larger the rooster, the louder and the lower the pitch; the smaller the less loud, but higher the pitch. So, louder, bass-toned crows tend to be FAR less annoying than high-pitched shrieking crows at less volume. Medium sized birds such as silkies tend to have a medium pitch and volume. That said, I have one silkie who is spending much of the hot weather inside has such a loud and annoying crow that he cannot be inside at night; I will normally sleep right through a bird crowing near me; not this guy. If you have a noise-insulated laundry room or bathroom or garage, you might be able to put males in there at night and have few issues with nighttime/early morning crowing. Also, keep it dark where he is, and an extra short cage where he cannot stretch up high to crow may help.

Ok so I need some help! When I first got my silkies I got two black and two white. As they have grown and matured I have realized I have 3 boys and 1 girl.. It wouldn't be a problem if my boys wernt so protective and LOUD! Crowing all day non stop! And if I go to pick up my girl they come around me and follow me and even try and peck me if she starts to bock at them! Sometimes I catch the boys being mean to her, but if I seperate them I don't want her to be alone. Any advise?
Get more pullets?
