Silkie thread!

Hi glad you asked this question and dont mean to hijack your post, but I was wondering how long you leave your birds in the breeding pen for gor best chance of fertile eggs?
I rotate my cocks into my White flock every laying/brooding cycle because I am trying to hatch every egg laid this season. I have my hens synchronized to lay and brood around the same time. Any stragglers are separated from the flock until they get with the program. It's working well for me but I only have three males and five hens right now to work with. I suppose two months in and one month out is how I do it.

These are my first results with this system. The second pen is just finishing up laying this cycle and getting close to broody again. I just candled sixteen eggs from cock #2 in the incubator and have 75 % fertility. Cock #1 was 100% fertility. I will wait another month before putting cock #3 with the five girls.

I would like some help determining my "hens" sex. She came with two rooster brothers who were obnoxious and always picking on her. Once or twice I had to stop the less dominant Roo from mounting "her". Now I don't know if she's a SHE because she's been crowing (a sad broken little warble), and I swear her comb and waddle have gotten bigger.

Roosters mount to show dominance over other roos, and that is what was happening in this case. Your hen isn't a hen. Sorry

Ok, I had a fabulous Catdance hatch rate last spring, and alas, it is time to find homes for some of the boys! I think I have 11, and will keep a few...but I need help on the colors....is this considered a paint? Sorry to not be up on all my colors, but I know you guys are and can help!!! I have 2 of these boys - keeping one.... I am hoping to sell him locally, which is S. California, and have no idea on price? Thanks!
Don't know the color - other than BEAUTIFUL!!!

I have two Catdance boys in this coloring. They are Porcelains.

Sorry...I was trying to quote in the post with the pictures.

This is one of my cockerels I hatched from Karen that had Por written on the egg. Another boy hatched out from an egg marked Por 2. Meaning Pen #2.

One has more buff than the other.

This picture was taken two months ago. He is darker now.

Well, Ella didn't like what I had setup for a nest box, so back to brainstorming ideas. I had that tray wedged up in their little coop there behind her. I thought that would be enough for a nest box. It's nice and enclosed, just needed a bottom with a ridge to keep the egg from rolling out and nesting material in. Maybe I'll try a milk crate with a piece of wood for a solid bottom. See if she can get comfortable in that. It should be too heavy to kick around.

The top one looks exactly like my 2 boys from Catdance eggs!
