Silkie thread!

Poor girl. I hate rabbit cages. I never pit my chickens on wire. Clean the girl up a bit lol.. Maybe not put her in rabbit cage. It could be the problem.

I used to think putting them on wire was bad, then I discovered that left to their own devices they will spend as much time on wire as on the ground or bedding. I've found that it is usually easier to keep their feet in condition if they are on wire, and since it doesn't seem to bother them...

I was wondering what color I will get if I breed my white silkie hen to my buff silkie rooster? Or my splash rooster to my white hen? The only breeding specs I found on here was the splash, blue, blacks..and I only have buffs, white, splash and lavenders. Would like to get some pretty splash colors, paints, porcelain, etc. Thanks guys!! Oh and had a little scissor beak splash given to me. Anyone had good luck raising one??

White is unpredictable--could get anything from crossing one to a non-white, and every white can give different results.

do you have any suggestions for me on what to try?

If you have a local garden supply store. I'd look for some antibiotics and try that first. Also slowly move the leg and feel the knee joint. If you feel nothing but the joint moving that's great. If you feel a grinding or popping or if the chicken is stressed when having it moved. Then its a stress fracture or break. If its a sting the chicken could have been allergic to what ever it was. Antibiotics or a low dose of benydrl will help.

I've messed with the knee joint many many times, I can't tell any difference from the other leg. so, ok. I shall try my oil of oregano for it. I use that for an antibiotic/antifungal. worth a try I suppose!

Professor Fluffles laid her first egg today and it was shell-less. That's our first one. I'm assuming it's just because she's a brand-new layer. She's on the same diet as the other chickens -- flock maintenance feed with free-choice oyster shell. I already have one impaired chicken, so I don't need roosters with kidney troubles. Our roos (all silkies and cochins) are the kids' pets. So far our eggs have had nice, hard shells until the Professor's.

Another question...I was given this little frizzle today that the lady said was a rooster...but I'm almost positive its a hen, and I'm thinking about putting her in with my silkies. Which color of rooster should I put her with to get splash, paints etc. I have a splash, white, buff and lavender rooster. Lol or what would be pretty? Thanks again!!
