Silkie thread!

I really hope its a girl. She is kinda shy, but when I put her on the table she sits very still and "poses". She needs a name. The more they feather out, the darker she looks compared to the whites.

Haha yeah we'll figure out something!

Love the hen =) she looks nice for a non-bearded.

SO the finally decision for halloween costumes for my silkies? Drumroll please!.......

Hippie Chicks!!!!!!

On a less cheerful note... I can't find Jack Frost anywhere =( I hope he turns up.
This is so adorable! Totally made me smile!!! Thanks for posting!!

Pic of my rooster I rescued! I heard him crow for the first time yesterday!

Question...if I have a blue silkie that has one extra toe and the longest toe has a pink tip would I be better off not breeding it? Or can her offsprings be corrected with the right roo

Does anyone know what to do about a silkie chick that will not stand? I had to help it out of the egg - it was a really bad hatch and only it and three others made it out of thirty-five eggs. Everything about it is fine, no deformities, it just won't stand up. It leans back on its hocks but never gets up on its feet. I don't know what to do about her.

I had the same thing happen with one of the ones I hatched a couple of weeks ago. I had to hand feed it Kaybee caged bird hand feeding formula mixed with hard boiled egg yoke with a syringe. I also had to dip its beak in water that I mixed with rooster booster vitamin powder. After 3 days it was eating on its own. It is only a quarter of the size of the other chicks but doing great. You can also put a soft cloth in the bottom of a cup and put the chick in it to keep it on its feet until it is stable. Just be sure it is not too close to the heat since it cannot get away from it. I did this with a d'Anver chick that hatched a star gazer (thiamine deficiency) and along with B12 vitamin supplements and hand feeding it also made it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice you guys! I decided to give her some poultry nutri drench because I think she may have a vitamin deficiency. It has lots of good stuff in it, including niacin, so we'll see how she does and if she starts gaining strength in her legs. Strangely enough, she's the biggest of the four. Nice and healthy besides her weak legs, go figure. If anyone was wondering, she was born on Halloween and her name is Voodoo :p

Edit: Slipped tendon in both legs it seems. One was very easy to fix and I've taped it in place and she's already using the leg better. The other is darn difficult. I can slip the tendon back in easy enough, but it doesn't want to stay there and I'm having trouble taping it and getting it to stay thanks to all the leg feathers. Do you think vet wrap would work better? I can easily get some tomorrow.

vet wrap is so much easier than tape! I definatey recommend it! Just have to cut it into smaller strips.
