Silkie thread!

Would any of you mind giving your opinion on my daughter's silkies? It's her first flock (she's 6 and her brother just started 4H, so she felt left out!) and I got them from a semi-local source. They are about 1 1/2 - 2 weeks old. They do have 5 toes, but that's all I know to look for! lol

Thanks!!!

They certainly look cute! They are still awfully young but you could start to keep an eye out for them having the correct comb also I like to see them showing middle toe feathering early on. Also keep an eye on uniform black skin (toes are notorious for having color weakness but it will correct itself usually within a few weeks or so) also look for double toe nails/toe pads, toe separation and eye color. That's about all I can think of that you'll be able to spot now or in the next few weeks. Mostly for now just enjoy! They are going to grow up so fast you'll miss this teeny tiny stage

ur first clue is there no such thing as a cuckoo split so the breeder didnt know what they where talking about

You are right I am new to the cuckoo coloring I loved the color wanted to work on it. I'v heard of people using blacks to improve quality. I was also told that if a cuckoo male was used all offspring would be cuckoo thats why it confuses me. If thats so the roo is cuckoo and the hen black should result in cuckoo offspring. They said they never heard from ANYONE that they had any black chicks hatch. I don't believe that.

I have cuckoo roos over black and blue hens. about 75% hatch cuckoo and the rest are back or blue chicks. I am sorry you did not get what you wanted, but I believe you said his original stock came from the person that has sassy silkies jenn(sorry I cant rember the rest). She has some very very nice stock. Even though they are blue you may have some very nice silkies on your hands
