Silkie thread!

LOL, I am picturing that in my head... yikes, LOL. So funny. I think they would be so warm and soft tucked into a knitted cap! Ha ha!!! and because my feet are always cold, a couple of them would make for great live fuzzy slippers ;-)

Lol I'm afraid I would smash the eggs doing something. I'm following the thread to see how it turns out. I think she's down to eight or seven days left.

These are so friendly that we didn't know whether it was a hen or a rooster until it crowed. He looked like a hen,he acted like a hen so we thought that he was a she.

Well I just went out and got my 2 broodies and brought them into our den. They didn't get off their nests when I moved the boxes to the large rubbermaid tote they will be living in for awhile. After some thought, I feel it's the best thing to do, since they refuse to get up to eat and drink on their own in this cold. I really hope once it gets light in that room, they don't freak out and realize they aren't in the coop.

I just want to reiterate how much I love silkies. Last night we had a broody Marans hatch out a baby...then attack it! I found her other baby dead in a nest box last weekend and just thought maybe the egg got crushed if she had to protect her nest. ...who knows now. After the first baby died I pulled her into our shop, so she wouldn't be bothered. Glad I did our her second baby would be dead also. Anyway! Back to my point ...I love silkies! I just grabbed the wet cold baby, and stuck it under a broody silkie. She didn't even think twice about taking that baby. Marans mama is getting a big band on her leg so we know never to let her sit again. Bad broody!!

Oh my gosh. You must have been devastated. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I am a brand new Silkie momma now. My roo, Squatchie has become very attached to me after only a few days. He got scared when hubby was moving things around in my studio (we're getting new flooring for our living room so a lot of stuff is being stored in there) and Squatchie popped out of his cage and stuck to me like velcro! I had to give him a nice massage to calm him down. I also trimmed a bit of feathering to expose his eyes more- it was so funny when he was able to see more and went about exploring his cage and surroundings. He seems much happier now that he doesn't have to cant his head this way or that to see things. Plus, he has lovely doe-eyes that are like little black jewels. I love him so much. He's my little buddy. I can hardly wait to get more Silkies and the variations e.g. Sizzles etc. I hope he will be a good daddy to some chicks once I get some hens and start to let them breed.

I felt horrible that rest of the day! I knew I should've pulled the broody in, but like to be as hands off as possible. The baby that didn't make it was had a silkie mama and the roo is a smooth sizzle. Would've been pretty no matter what. Darn it!!

The baby that's under her new mama silkie is doing great. Cute little black chick with hints of red around her eyes. ...well hopefully a girl.

Hope your roo does well with you. I have a black silkie roo who didn't crow for months...and when he did we were shocked. Would've bet money he was a girl. He's sweet and goofy...but in 8-9 months haven't seen him even try to mount once. Thank goodness for our smooth sizzle roo to cover little girls. Lol

There is nothing like a Silkie momma. I have had mine hatching blrw and just realized that I need to hatch more silkies. The only problem I have come across , I lost 2 chicks to strangulation . They were caught up in the undercarriage , by the time I found them it was too late.
