Hello everyone glad to find this thread. I recently purchased some silkies and silkie crosses to add to my growing flocks. I have a pair (crossing my fingers as they're still young about 3mo) of non bearded partridge silkies a black silkie X cochin hen and a speckled silkie cochin hen. The speckled hen was given to me by the breeder after we had been talking for awhile she felt that I might enjoy her, her exact words were "you look like someone who likes to play around with their birds" she hit the nail on the head. She has a crocked beak the lady felt it was a non genetic birth defect as she's the only chick to hatch like that in years her name is Miss. Fit and she has a wonderful personality.
Never used to like silkies seemed like something everyone had some, but then I was given one and during the winter I didn't have any other chickens and it was really too cold to keep him outside so he became a house chicken. One of the coolest pets I've ever had. I felt bad keeping him locked in a small cage all day so I started letting him out in my room, well it didn't take long before he was a well trained bird he spent a good part of the day sitting atop his cage watching everything but at night he had a little square of fleece on the bed and he would sleep there right next to me never left his little square and surprisingly never messed outside of his cage.
Well enough of my rambling I'll post pictures of my lovely new birds soon.
