Silkie thread!

FYI, I just heard from Colie <3, and apparently someone drove into her rock wall which fell and killed half her flock, including all her blacks and blues and all her splash girls, also a Lavender roo and split blue roo. It would be nice if some of you PMed her with sympathy or info on replacements. thanks

Sorry about not being politically correct about the term "project." I was just referring to the breeding programs that someone has going. I understand that grey is a standard.

yeah, i didnt try to hit a nerve, just figured culls were put down, also, and figured it was bad to waste them, and wondered about. on the laying ability, are there just a lot mass breeding, or am i mistaken in that they are bad layers? seeing so many people with so many eggs lately.

on a different note, so sorry to hear about colie<3's birds and wall, and hope she is compensated, though know once attached after deciding to keep, its not about money.

"Once you've owned one and see a Show Quality vrs. A Pet Quality. You might understand." any comparisons to show or tell of what the difference is as far as pets versus others if difference, as what trying to find out.

awwww, but couldn't you just post your extras on the BYC site? Most of just have pet chickens, nothing special, but they are loved anyway. Give them a chance to play and have a nice life someplace first. Then if you can't find homes, well---.

If anyone wants to pay $60 shipping for a pet quality cockerel? I've posted them for $5 on craigslist (you have to put a price, lots of cockfighters etc here, and free roosters get butchered- would rather do it myself so I know it is done humanely).

It's the reality of breeding. It's unfortunate, wish I could keep them all, but it's not realistic.

I know it is no consolation, but hopefully Colie will get monetary compensation for her birds that will help her rebuild her flock. Hopefully she will present the insurance company with the full cost of quality replacements, including the cost of shipping.

Colie, so sorry for your loss.
