Silkie thread!

I really need sleep. Big day tomorrow. I hope the little makes it under momma. I hope she can get out of that membrane on her own. Thanks for being on tonight guys. You have helped calm me down. Thank you.

Def let us know how she does when you get a minute..I just posted in the buff thread..I swear if shes not buff.....ggggrrrrr....
Sending good vibes to your broodys booty :)

Thanks. I read it. It definitely says dont tear the membrane. Too late for that. Since she is under a broody, will I still have to keep rewetting the membrane? Can she hatch on her own with the top of the shell off? The inner membrane is still on her. The outer shell and membrane right alond the air cell are gone. I had to take more off to check her bleed.

You will need to help it now that you have started to help. Let the chick be for a while. When I assist, I usually check every couple of hrs..as to how much I can peel back. The chick is absorbing it's yolk now...and blood. When you aren't seeing blood when you pick some shell off, it will be ok to take more shell off, and to move the membrane back. The more shell that is off, the more easy it will be for the chick to actually kick out on it's own. Takes some time. :)

Shes under a broody. I still need to help though? Will she be okay for a few hours for me to sleep? I can set my alarm to get up to check her. She can breath. I dont want her to kick out early by peeling membrane to soon. Sorry i just dont want to mess up worse than i have already. Thanks for helping me. Adding... I checked on her. Remoistened the membrane, peeled some back. Shes chirping and moving a bit, so hopefully thats good. I dont think the other chick made it. Pipped and patial zip. I can see its beak and no breathing or movement. Poor liitle one. Still under mom though just in case im wrong.

They hatched! 6 out of 8 hatched normally, 1 I "surgically" removed just now (stuck to the membrane), and 1dud. 2 are black, 1 golden brown, 1 gray, 1 yellow with pink skin, and 1 yellow/tan with black skin, and the one I hatched appears to be gray. Was a fun day! Will try to post a pic.
They're so cutee!!! :)

The first chick , I would say is a light partridge. With the amount of yellow showing it may loose its markings all together. My red partridge start out fairly dark.

Great pictures! Thanks! They make me even more excited to see how they feather out. What a freak of genetics white silkies carry :)

Well after getting up in the middle of the night twice to wet down her inner membrane, the chick is out and under momma. Very weak. Chirping though. She has a little blood from where her umbilical was. Probably because the egg was pretty dried out I'm guessing. She didn't have to work very hard to get out so she isnt very strong. We have to leave at 10 am so I hope she perks up. I don't want to try vitamins or sugar water on a chick that can't hold her head up yet. Ive aspirated a chick before and it is heartbreaking. Thanks so much everyone that helped me last night!!!! I would have had a nervous breakdown, over a chicken. I'll update whe I get home. Oh yeah, and she is partridge. I think I'll call her Seven.

I was able to take some very quick pictures this morning of the 2 girls I'm wondering about (their sister couldn't bear to be left out so she came too lol) The picture was taken with no flash. As you can see, the silkie on the far left is very light with the chipmunking. The girl in the middle just has a lot of orange tint to her downy. Does this help determine color variation? What do red or buff silkies look like as day olds? Thanks again for taking a look and for your in-put!!!

How's the other one doing that started to Zip? If it doesn't make progress I would help it out.
