The first chick , I would say is a light partridge. With the amount of yellow showing it may loose its markings all together. My red partridge start out fairly dark.I hatched out several silkies this week and I was wondering if someone could help me identify what color these "ladies" will be as they feather out. All my chicks come from 1 Blue Roo over 2 white hens... so I know the whites could throw just about anything depending on their own genetics. But I'm new to Silkies and could use some help. I apologize for the picture quality as I took these with my camera phone. The first chick has a light greyish downy with this brown/light brown chipmunk pattern over. I'm thinking may a Partridge?![]()
This next "girl" has a white downy with an orange spotty pattern over her. It's definitely not yellow and appears more orange in person. But hopefully these 2 pictures can give you an idea of what she is. Any ideas will help. Thanks!!!

I think that I read that you are just supposed to let them be..as long as they can breathe out the hole, let them be until the veins dry up more?Help! I was trying to help a chick and broke the membrane. She bled a little. I chipped some of the air sac away but she is still in tje egg. I feel terrible. Shes still alive. Back under mom. Is there anything i can do???
Does the lil one not have feathers on her feet? I think all of mine were born with feathers on their feet?? They are very sweet lil birds..if she gets cold being alone, I tuck mine in my armpit or if they are not active, sometimes in my bra..it keeps them nice and warm.. Let us know how she does..Thank you, I am going to take her out and put her in another little box for a bit with me and wet the food a bit and see if she eats it better that way. Our black one is twice the size and already has
feathers (looks like fur to this novice) on her feet. My gosh what a HOOT!
I guarantee it..I have read so much on hatching in the last few days I could probably write a book at this point.. but I am pretty sure that it said a lil blood is okay, just as long as you dont continue to break the shell bc you could tear bigger veins..but that as long as the egg is kept moist and left alone that it should be okayIm freaking out. I feel so bad. Shes under momma. I dont want to look. Dangit.
You may have a buff(the more yellow one) and a red (the partridge marked one)..I am trying to go back through my pics to see if I have any decent ones of my red as a chick..
No I guess not 100%..I am just going based on what the woman that I got her form said--she had her and 5 roos that were all identical and said that she had had a very hard time finding the buffs and hated to sell them but was getting out of chickens all together.. She is pretty even colored though..she is just missing feathers and some are torn where the roos were apparently pretty aggressive with her(I have only had her since Saturday)Are you sure your hen is a buff? It's my understanding that darker colour in the moor cap indicates ' partridge ' . Our buffs are buff all over and even coloured to the skin.
