Sorry I worked this afternoon didn't see the question till now . I didn't try to get them to use them as nests - I bought them for feed dishes but the hens kept laying their eggs in them

So I bought more and I just put a couple in each pen and the girls use them . I now use hanging rabbit feeders for thier feed . ( they cann't get in them

) My hens love the dog dishes .~~~~ Tammy

Where I live you have to make sure your pens are predator safe - I couldn't use a tote on the outside it would be way to easy for a fox or coon ... to get into . What ever you use just remeber anything attached to the out side has to be tight or you may loose your birds to a hungry predator . just some thoughts ~~~~ Tammy

I just posted my very first egg auction on here.

My main incubator is getting fixed and I don't want to let this many eggs go to waste. If someone has room in their incubator for ALOT of eggs, it might be worth checking out.

I hope that I salvaged some of the 300+ eggs I had in mine. I kept it covered with a blanket until the electrician showed up and eggs were still about mid 80's yet then. Fired up the smaller redwood one over at my parents, got it regulated, and carted eggs over there. About 8 hours of jumbled temps. Ughhh

im not sure how differant silkie eggs are from game eggs and quail eggs, but the game eggs do just fine and still stay warm after the bator gets cool, and quail eggs cool down fast, but seem t heat right back up quick with no troubles, though thinking i should be keeping the best insulating stuff for around bator during recent power outages during storms.

i am new to this, but i have 13 white and splash chicks they are about 2 week also have 2 white hens and one black roo cant post pics yet but love lookin at everybodies . when i can i will post i am glad i found this site i have learned alot.thanks

I have had a black hen that has never been broody and Ive had her for almost a year. She is a great layer! My other silkies get broody ever other week it seems like

Happy dance! Just got word that some of those eggs are pipping. Guess they are hardy lil buggers after all.
