Silkie thread!

Hi this is my first hatch of my silkie bantams I set 5 eggs and after day 14 2 where developing lovely and the rest where yolkers. I have a janoel12 automatic incubator , I put 100ml of water in every 2 days like it says and on day 18 I went in to lockdown put another 100 ml of water and candled them and they where still moving but the air sack looked good but when I look at the recommended

pictures it looks the size of the 14th day.

I'm worried something might go wrong as it's not been plain sailing during this incubation I came home on day 2 of incubation to find we had a power cut from 10am till 2pm then on day 16 we had a blazing hot day and the internal temp went up to 39 so had to bring the incubator into my house where it cooler.

No. Go for Sevin dust or something similar. The wood ash and DE are okay as a preventative, but wont do diddly squat once you have an infestation. Treat with the Sevin, and then do it again in 7-10 days. Clean all bedding out of the coop both times you treat.

Good luck!

This is what I use, and have great success with it. I do the shake and bake bag.

Sounds terrible. They do fine though. Put the chicken in a bag with the seven dust in it, don't really have to shake hard..lol..When they get out, they take off shaking themselves, and this helps it get around even more.

I wait till they are on the roost at night, put my trusty headlamp on and sprinkle down their backs and under the wings. I find that this way they don't shake it all over me, It burns when it gets in your eyes and makes me sneeze. Treat again in 10 days. I sprinkle sulphur around the coop and under the bedding after each cleaning.

The margins are fairly small at this stage and if you are already in lock down then it just a matter of ' wait and see. This article may help.

To those that gave me advice on my hen with wry neck.

She is doing much better. She holds up her head now, She still has a slight "bend" just behind the head but other than that she is doing fine. She has to get to moving since she sat n those eggs herself for 3 weeks. I'm sure she is stiff from not moving much other than to roll her eggs. I'll keep giving her the vitamin E till she is completely back to normal. This may be her last brood since she is 5 years old now. I'm working on adding new girls to my sizzle pen since my older girls will be quitting soon. they will stay here till they get old and die because they have been great layers and mothers and have contributed to the feed fund very well. They will spend their retirement being spoiled.

What is sevin dust ? And thank you everyone for helping me! I will probably try the dust :)

Sevin is a pesticide for garden and livestock. It comes in diferent strengths 5% or 7% I believe. Font quote me on that. My when I had my rooster at the vet he told me to mix it half and half with corn starch if I ever used it again.
