Silkie thread!

thank you so much for your help DH thinks i should cull her since it will take a lot of care for her to give her the special things she needs but i so want to give her a chance. i would be a nervous wreck trying to trim her beaks i would be afraid of hurting her. does this condition ever correct its self and someone told me that if you give vitamins that it helps fix the problem not sure if that is true. again thank you for your help i will keep you posted on how she is

I have some Silkies I hatched from eggs I bought and I was wondering....If some that do not have muffs, Will they get them later or not get them at all? They are 3-4 weeks old right now and just sprouting tiny bits on the tops, but nothing like my other silkies. Is this a bad sign?

They may be non bearded, as I have seen most nonbearded are not muffed either. In my experience, if they do not have them at hatch, they will not get them. Go back one page I posted a pic of chicks that hatched yesterday and they are all muffed and bearded as chicks.

I was worried that would be the answer. Oh well.

Each is different. I also have a blind silkie so with me, it wasn't that much extra to take care of Kriss and I actually set them both up to eat together. They are the first at the mash to ensure they both have a good spot at the bowl. The only thing extra for me was to do the beak care. It is up to you and if you don't have the time to care for her. You could also see if someone would be willing to adopt her? I have given vitamin supplements to mine since they were chicks.
I have heard sometimes it can be corrected if caught early and trimmed back early enough that it can eventually grow correctly after repeated trimmings. I have not heard that about the vitamins.
But really, other than the trimmings and the mash I make, there isn't a whole lot extra for me to do for Kriss.

I love my non bearded silkies they normally just don't have as a big of crest or don't appear to be as fluffy in the crest. I think they look Elegant and beautiful
