Silkie thread!

Mine wouldn't touch the sunflower seeds when they were in the shell . But I new they had goodness in them that they would benefit from . So I found a source of nonshelled sunflower seeds I buy by the pound and I just run them through my food processer . They love it now . ~~ Tammy

So I'm overzealous with my toe feathers!

From the APA SOP:
LEGS AND TOES
...the outer and middle toe well feathered. Female same as male but no spur. (Bare middle toe is a serious defect in either sex.)
Also from SOP: Each bare middle toe is a 2 point cut.

The SHANKS need to be fully feathered on the outside or is a DQ.

Heavy foot feathering is ideal. What I was trying explain, because some breeds have feathering on both sides of the middle toe and if you are coming from one of those you might not understand, is that the middle toe should have feathering on top and down the outerside of the toe. The inside of the middle toe should not have feathers growing out of it. As far as the 4th & 5th toe, this was a discusion on the ASBC website last year, one shower was DQ'd for those being feathered. After checking with breeders on there,as well as judges, it was decided,by those on the thread, that there was no ruling on those being feathered, but is up to the judge on that day.

On the other hand, I talked to several judges after being told by an exhibitor to pull all feathers on the fourth and fifth toe. Both judges said not to do so, that the additional feathering was a boon. To date, I have had no comments on feathers on the fourth and fifth toes.

Do you mind sharing which judges were DQing for feathers on fourth and fifth toe? I looked in the SOP and there is nothing stating it is a DQ or a fault. I wonder if it is a judge who isn't as familiar with the silkie? I'm curious so that, should I ever show under those DQing judges, I can groom appropriately.

It was a shower on the ASBC website that was DQ'd. You would have to see the thread on that site. I think it happened down south last spring.

I wanted to share some pictures of my newly hatched buffs from Sundown!!!

This is Alice. She is one of my PQ's that was thrilled to hatch some eggs for us.

Momma is beautiful and so are the babies Sundown always has those beautiful fluffy babies.

Thank you! The mom is such a sweetheart. She is with my PQ's but one of the nicer looking ones. I've always loved her black fluffy head.
