Silkie thread!

I've been researching feeds in an attempt to decide what exactly it is I would like to feed my Silkies, but I just CAN'T decide! If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

I've been using Dumor 20% crumbles for all the birds chicks through adults. I get it at Tractor Supply. The adults I will alternate with some lay mash from the local feed mill/or lay pellets once in a while. They seem to do better on higher protein and their feathers stay in nicer condition.

Im also interested in hearing what others feed, including supplements/vitamins, etc.

I agree this is exactly what I do and it saves on the feed bill! I give them free choice oyster shell instead of the layer feed.

I feed mine as a treat sometimes cat food or black sunflower seeds.

I have been using flock raiser mixed with Chick feed on an average of 50% each. I have chicks up to 1 year olds. I also feed them a mash of their feed with added vitamins I make once a day. I had been adding Poly vi sol but recently picked up some Manna Pro poultry conditioner and adding that to the mash instead to see if there is a difference. I only had started the one bag so it is too early to tell yet.
They also get a daily treat....BOSS, or yogurt or cottage cheese or oatmeal or scrambled eggs and also anything else like melon rinds we have at the time.

I know the mash is a bit over the top but it all started with giving this to my blind girl to get her strong and healthy again and now my entire flock wants it and has come to expect it every morning!!!

Okay~~I know you'll are going to laugh, but here's what I feed my birds....
new chicks to 4mths---gamebird starter (28% protein)
everyone over 4 mths---layer crumbles mixed with gamebird starter, BOSS (shelled), wheat,
and safflower
everyone out of the brooders also gets a "bowl" of breakfast each morning which consists of--leftovers from the fridge or chopped fresh cabbage or cooked whole grain rice mixed with veggies or oatmeal. Everyone (even brooder chicks) gets chopped boiled eggs several times a week
at 4PM everyone out of the brooders gets a handful of bread
free choice grit and oyster shell at all times

Supplements-- once a week I sprinkle Pro-biotic powder on their breakfast
once a week I sprinkle VitE & selenium powder on their breakfast
once a week I drip VitB12 drops on their breakfast
once a week I add ACV to their water
once a week I add Poly-vi-sol without iron to their water

Okay~~~guess you'll can laugh now
P.S. I have no idea what it costs me, or should I say, costs my wonderful husband

I cann't get mine to eat dumor . I've been mixing growcal and scratch together . along with a few different grains for treats and to keep feathers bright . ~~~ Tammy

No laughing here

shows you love your silkies that's all . But be careful with the xtra vitamins you can poison them with too many vitamins . Your high quality grains carry alot in them also . ( And I too feed several times a week boiled eggs and also cracked sunflower seeds and ground fennel and once a week they get cooked oatmeal although I really don't know why I cook it . They are such a mess afterwards !!! ) ~~~~Tammy
