The funny thing is that I'm seriously considering getting them!

I am sure if I had trouble keeping them dry I would look into them as well...
my daughter would want one in every color... She would have a shoe closet for her chicken... then where would she put all of hers????

Guess I shouldn't say much..... really..... I adore our silkies and sit with them in the barn for hours every morning watching them eat watermelon. Bought a watermelon just so I could take them slices.

I live here in Portland too..I read here to use sand in their run and my two silkies feet are staying clean..just a thought. Even when its been raining

it comes right off once they go to their coop.

Good thought, although we have a "yard" not necessarily a "run" for the girlies, so that would be A LOT of sand...still thinking about that though..... THANKS!!

Just wanted to post some pictures of my new roo. Well at least I am hoping roo, looks like one but does not act like one. 6 or 7 months old.
Please excuse the fact he needs a bath.

Hello all,

I've made the jump, and come to the "fluffy side".

Eggs are in the mail now, so should be here by Friday. Are there any differences in hatching temps/humidity that I should know about? Also a few more questions:

When do pullets get to POL?

At what age can these be sexed, shy of crowing or laying?

I am getting bearded stock. Is there any chance a non-bearded chick will show up?

Is there any specific reason to have non-bearded stock?

I've got a lot to learn about Silkies, but I've got time and love to research. They have just grown on me the more I see them, plus the fact that the hens go broody often. I would love to have some hen raised chicks! Plans for a seperate coop and run are underway now! I'm getting excited to hatch some little furballs!

....yes, I know they don't have fur!
