Silkie thread!

Ideally, so would I, but until I can get some help to get my 15x20' shed converted, I need something simple and easy enough for me to build. I was thinking of it being off the ground too. Is this a bad idea? Seeing as how their eyes seem to get covered up some what, do they do well with ramps/ladders at all?

I have a lower perch in the coop and some of the silkies use it. It is about 2 feet off the ground and some do use it. Some can fly right up on it and others will use the ladder to get onto the perch but most still go in a silkie pile!

So when they lay their eggs at the end of this 4 foot high 16 foot long tunnel are you going to crawl on your hands and knees through chicken poop to gather the eggs? I made one of my runs 4 feet high and I regret it every time I hunch over to go in there.

Color pros--- what is this called if anything? Should I keep it?
Sorry the pic quality is bad. The pic of it's back is accurate. The spots are only on it's wing tips and back. The rest is a buff color. Or is that a buff color?

I must have some strange silkies, but mine do roost (in a sense)
I have my brooder still in the coop and have it propped up on one end with 6x6x6 blocks... I did this so the little ones can get away from the big ones still...
The walk up a board and roost on top of the brooder with everyone else... the don't use roost "boards", but they do like to be up high.

I can get pics if anyone wants to see what they are doing at night.

I'm not sure what color the chick will turn out to be. If you can, let it feather out more to give you a better idea. I've had some light chickmunky/buff chicks feather out as buffs with too much smut. Others have been bluish partridgey colored.

No. I would make the nest boxes on the outside of the coop, within the run. I know what you mean about crouching to get in a coop or run. I don't do crouching well at all, so my run is covered and 6' tall.

after giving it a lot of thought I have decided to sell my white silkies. I like them but I LOVE my colored sikies so in order to make space I'm selling the whites. these were purchased from cushn tush silkies I bought her entire flock. she had birds from alan stanford, laura beardsly bobbi porto. kind of a whos who of silkie breeders. I will be putting all 3 pairs up for auction on here this weekend. these are not culls these are my show birds we are keeping one hen that is a pet otherwise all are going. these have been shown at several APA shows and have done very very well. they will only be sold in pairs and I will ship or drive to meet people. I'm going to take new pics this weekend
