Silkie thread!

Hi! I just got 2 silkies and want someone experienced to tell me what they think. We will love them no matter what but it would be great if they have show potential. I have 4 boys and 2 are old enough to be in 4-h. Here is the rooster

Honest opinions please as we hope to breed them if they are male and female.

I'm just learning about this breed myself, but it looks like you have a male and a female to me! It's hard to tell... Is the male vaulted(lump on the skull that gives improved crest)? It looks like the hen is, and that a good thing to look for.

The Buffs appear to be male and female but if they are from the same hatch as siblings I would not breed siblings. Father to daughter once is okay but not siblings.

I am not sure if this is where I should post this so I am posting here. These little ones are almost 4 months old and I would like opinions as to whether they are hens or roos and also the color of my black one, is she black or blue (as I was told at time of purchase)?

This is Red, s/he has a larger comb than my others but no streamers so I have no idea. I was leaning towards roo but the lack of streamers has me lost. Pic 2 has a small shot of Pearl in the background.

This is Lola, she has no comb to speak of. Last pic includes a little bit of Pearl

This is Pearl, she had wet feathers on her/his head today but has no comb to speak of either

Thanks in advance!

Red is almost definitely a roo judging by that comb. If he is young it could be that he just hasn't grown in his mature feathers yet. The streamers will come in after his first adult molt. The other two are most likely hens.

Quote: Thanks! But when I went to get it out I found that she had gotten cockleburs in her crest too! I did the best I could but I couldn't get all of the cockleburs out or the tomato stuff!

Do I need to cut them out? She does NOT want to hold her head still. Will they come out by themselves?
