Silkie thread!

Looks like a girl to me.

I agree! I saw someone else who thought it was a roo but I'm not seeing anything that would make me think it is.

Any thought as to the color of this pair? I was told they came from splash parents but I'm just not believing it. They are PET QUALITY only and not part of my breeding flock. Just curious as to what you think they're supposed to be. The black tail directs me away from splash or paint. Maybe they're just a (typically poor) representation of hatchery silkies? They were given to me for free. Thanks for your honest opinions in advance!

I think they are unique looking!. I would love one with a black tail like that.

I posted this on the sexing silkies thread but no one has replied. any ideas on sex and why it's wing feathers are much lighter than its very black body ? FYI brand new in quarantine.

its definitely getting the blue earlobes, is that a male trait only?

I thought possible a female, but it sure is getting a lot of streamer type feather on its head.

it does stand taller but was scared of the flash

Don't worry no one has responded because they're almost impossible to sex until they either lay an egg or crow.

I'm new to Silkies and my oldest two are only four months old. Pretty sure ones a hen the other a Roo but neither has crowed yet. I would guess yours is a pullet because it's not showing the pointy tail, it's crest looks roundish, no sign of wattles and its neck is not long. I could be wrong though only time will tell for sure. I think for the most part both sexes have the blue ear lobes. Sometimes it helps to post close up of face and approximate age too. Cute bird BTW, have fun with it!
