Silkie thread!

I posted this on the sexing silkies thread but no one has replied. any ideas on sex and why it's wing feathers are much lighter than its very black body ? FYI brand new in quarantine.

its definitely getting the blue earlobes, is that a male trait only?

I thought possible a female, but it sure is getting a lot of streamer type feather on its head.

it does stand taller but was scared of the flash
My silkie hen has blue earlobes so it is DEFINATELY not a male trait. My male silkie has indigo ears rather than the bright blue ear of the hens.

I don't see any streamers in the tail. Right now it looks like a female to me.

It think you have a little hen/pullet. The blue earlobe is a trait of all silkies. The wing that is lighter is nothing to worry about unless you want to show her. It may be either the sun that made it lighter (black silkies can sometimes appear brown or lighter in spots because the sun bleaches their feathers like it does hair) or it could just be her natural coloring. Good luck with your little silkie! its definitely getting the blue earlobes, is that a male trait only? I would say pullet. The ' osprey ' feathers are often lighter on black birds. Next time you are handling her just gently pull the wing out. If you see a gap between the primary and secondary feathers she has split wing, but she may just have longer ' ospreys '.

Has anyone corrected or had any experience with a rolled toe at six weeks of age? It's the outside right toe and its curved under the foot. It hatched this way, thought we had it fixed but it's gone back and seems to be sore now. I Have a splint on it now, wondering how long I should leave it on?

The white IS a roo and the other I'm undecided on but if you take a picture showing the tail it would help.
thanks! I have been thinking the white is a roo and blue is a pullet.
400
I'll try and get a tail pic later.

If this is reoccurring it is probably a vitamin deficiency. If you have it on medicated feed change to a non medicated feed and add a poultry vitamin to the water.
The older the chick gets the more difficult it will be to correct with booties or splints.
