Wow, and I thought 7°F was rough.Quote:
Not great... I have to put 2 heat lamps in their coop.... But then again not everyone gets nightly lows of -30!

The first one looks white, not sure what that black line is near it's eye and the other 2 are partridge. I'm gonna guess the white one is a girl and the others I'm assuming are 2 different birds are boys. At least the top pic of the partridge is a boy.Hi all, wondering if anyone can help me with a few questions about my silkie mixes, not certain what they are mixed with and I've never had silkies before. I'm curious to know what their colors are called & what sex they might be? They are currently only 5 weeks old, so I understand that it is probably too early to be able to tell for sure, but feel free to guess.

I guess it all just depends?
Thanks emvickery, the white silkie has black spots on its wing tips and by its eyes, have suspected female as well. The second chick is the same bird in both shots, just different angle of lighting, have guessed boy myself for this one. He is a blue grey color with the copper hackle feathers coming in. So this is called partridge? I have 2 other silkies, but the pictures wouldn't load earlier. Let's see if it will load now.The first one looks white, not sure what that black line is near it's eye and the other 2 are partridge. Sorry no full body shot on this one. Like the white bird it has darker wing tips. There is another one that is identical in color as the new picture, but it is half the size as the others, but is fluffy like the partridge one
This one is a buff. I'm going to stick my neck out there and say it'a a girl. Kinda hard to tell without being able to really look at all aspects. I had a white pullet one time that I thought was a boy and others did too. Then she started laying eggs. That made it final. Thanks emvickery, the white silkie has black spots on its wing tips and by its eyes, have suspected female as well.
