Silkie thread!

Thanks, I love her. She's broody right now, so she doesn't look nearly as pretty as she did in those pictures. And all of her sweetness is gone, she's about as ornery as they come!
None of my frizzles have problems with the cold. I'm in TN, so it doesn't get as cold here as it does in some places, but they do just fine. When we were getting ice and snow this past winter, they were out scratching and piddling around like they didn't have a care in the world. I don't run heat in my coops and they aren't insulated either. I did put up some feed bags on the coop walls and put down some extra straw, but that's the only special treatment they got.

Does anyone know why my broody silkie keeps coming off her nest and going around to other hidden places. Is that normal?

Guys, I still don't know if my chick is a pullet or a roo. It's 3 weeks old, its puffy frathers on its head aren't coming out yet, but she's supposed to be a silkie! Any clues if she will actually grow a puffy head or its gender?

Looks like a pretty little pullet to me. I don't see any wattles starting and the directionality of the head puff looks pullet. Very cute little silkie either way :)

Looks like a silkie mix. With what I have no idea. I just love that last picture! Too precious

Definitely not 100% Silkie, but still adorable! Some of my favorites in my flock are Silkie crosses. You can see in the last picture that it has regular smooth feathers coming in. As for a crest, it looks like it won't have much of one, if at all (nearly all of my Silkie crosses have at least a bit of a crest though).

I'd say it's still a little early to tell the gender but it should be a little easier with the smooth feathers. Let it feather out more and look for indicators like pointy hackles and saddle feathers. I'm leaning towards female though... due to the lack of size in the wattles. Hope that helps!

Thank you! The feathers were so different from the others' that I suspected as much, but I have never seen photos of frizzled silkies, just those sizzles that I think are crossed with cochins, so I wasn't sure. Here are some photos of my silkie babies, if anyone is interested. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for at least 2 pullets. Sorry for the phone photos, maybe one day I'll actually get a real camera out. This is Beatrix, she was given to me as a free extra, she was a few weeks older than the others she was grouped with, but she's very sweet with them. She has a crooked (but not crossed) beak and I think a single comb instead of the proper silkie one, but she's a darling. This is Winnie almost two weeks ago, she won't hold still to be photographed anymore. Honeysuckle & Clementine Wednesday & Tabitha (Tabitha is the one whose feathers are now coming in frizzled)
Very cute . I only see prominent ' osprey ' wing tips. Seems to be more obvious in darker colours.

Thank you MistyLea!! I too think she *may* be a female. I'll post a picture when she's a little bit older! And thank you, it really helped
