Silkie thread!

You put in all the hard work my friend.

True but it was you all that gave the advice. I was at a loss at what to do. I even made her worse at one point. I put her in a regular pen today. She's been in my grow pen. I found an egg in the grow pen that has a soft shell and was squashed. There is wood chips in it right now. I put them in to make her more comfortable. It is a pen on 4 legs and it has 1/4 wire mesh all around and on the bottom. Nothing can get in it except insects. Now she's on the ground she can enjoy a good dust bath and walk on solid ground. Who ever gets her at the auction will be a happy camper. I'll put a mate with her for the auction so they will bring more for the St Jude fund raiser auction.

I have 2 white Silkies and they keep getting their white face and top hair dirty. I tried using water and cotton balls to clean them but didn't work well. What can I use? They don't like me washing them. I also picked some tiny fleas off around their eyes. What is safe to use on them around their eyes and face to kill and repell fleas?

You could try tying the crest up when they are out (I use horse braiding elastic bands ) , or you could trim the feathers back. Those with large crests tend to dip the in the water whilst they are drinking and then they get dirty. Nothing is really safe to use around the eyes. Are you certain they are fleas you are seeing ? Could be mites. Either way dust them with poultry dust and then repeat in 10 days.

Look like tiny black fleas, I picked them off with my finger nails and squished them. What is poultry dust? But what about their eyes? What do you wash them with? Would baby shampoo work?

Sevin poultry dust , for external parasites. I don't recommend washing too often unless you are showing . Yes a mild dawn or baby shampoo will do .but diluted in the sink , as if you were washing dishes not directly on the bird. Baby wipes may work for little messes.
This may help with identifying the parasite .

Manna Pro Poultry Protector can be used on chicks as young as 9 days old. All the directions are on the label and because its organic can be used as often as necessary for lice/mites/ants/fleas/etc. I love this stuff and don't have to worry about strong or harsh chemicals for external parasites. An egg broke in the nestbox and attracted ants. A couple of squirts of Poultry Protector immobilized the ants so they didn't crawl up my hands as I cleaned the mess.

Sevin dust for plants I have seen but not for poultry. Where can I get poultry protector? So then it is safe to put on their head?

Manna Pro organic Poultry Protector is safe on the back of the head/neck and under the beard of Silkies or Ameraucanas and on chicks as young as 9 days old. For chicks I would dab the liquid Poultry Protector with a Q-tip but with my older hens I spray directly making sure not to irritate nostrils or eyes as with anything else be careful and follow directions for all the parts of a chicken or a coop to treat. But certainly Poultry Protector is safer IMO then the harsher chemical dusts or sprays. We get our poultry supplies at our local feed store but chicken products can always be ordered online at places like My Pet Chicken, Cackle Hatchery, Randall Burkey, Amazon, etc etc. Follow @Fancychooklady links as she always has good info links.
