Silkie thread!

Will silkies naturally puff out when they get wet? Since they don't have the same feathers as other hens, I feel like it would soak right through em' and they could catch a cold, but then again, they are a chicken and they should have some of the genes as a wild hen, right? (I am getting silkies on the 16th of march)

I would think they should be fine u just might not want to let them out in the poring down rain like a thunderstorm or something so they don't get so went or give them a place to get in out of the rain

Getting wet won't (shouldn't) kill them but their feathers are not anywhere near as water resistant as a normal chicken's, so it's important they don't get completely soaked and have somewhere dry to stay during heavy rain.

I live in Tennessee and it rains a lot- especially in the winter. . My silkies have a nice dry coop and several places in the yard with enough overhang/shelter to keep them dry. But they will not stay inside regardless of the weather and they've been soaking wet in some cold weather but in the 2 years I've had silkies, they have never been sick and don't seem to mind the weather any more than my normal feathered chickens do.

Good luck I to am getting so I can't wait I even just went in lockdown in incubation so I am having so chicks here to plus maybe getting some silkies chicks from tractor supply but since ur in New England u don't have a tractor supply and stuff there do u?

I have a tractor supply in my area, I get my chicks at "Dodge Grain", ever heard of it?
