Silkie thread!

It is over 90 degrees here today, which is unusual for us. We had a young rooster that I should have listed to sell but he was splash so I thought I would keep him until his sisters start laying. I don't know if the heat got to him or if the head rooster chased him away from feed and water causing him to get dehydrated since my husband is the one who found him dead today. Our rooster is pretty aggressive when it comes to running off the young roosters so I should have listed him for sale instead of trying to keep him this long. With our Orpingtons the young roosters will gang up on the boss rooster so I am selling them off younger but the Silkies seem so docile that I did not think he would get chased to death.

My husband and daughter are taking care of the birds while I am waiting for surgery and they don't spend as much time watching the birds the way I do when I am out there every day because they are busy with work and school. I need to get my surgery so I can get in the raised pen again. We did not design the door for access with a knee scooter or walker. We also built a cedar fence and roof to make the pen more secure for chicks so I need to look through the windows in the fence or go inside to watch them. I can't even see them from the house or back porch.

Do any of you on here sell show/breeder quality silkies? I've been wanting to add some nice ones to my pre-existing pens. If anyone has any for sale please pm me. I raise and show bbs, porcelain, paint, and white silkies.

what color is this 5 week old chick and what quality I'm wandering

Ok so I'm studying my book again, yes I'm a bookworm lol.. anyways it said bantams should have a higher humidity during hatch time because they lose more then normal size eggs. For those here who hatch silkies what do you keep your humidity at during hatch time? Thanks. :)
Edit- I'm using brinsea octagon 20, forced air.

I do around 60% humidity at lockdown with no issue, for both bantam and standard eggs. Granted I mostly hatch bantam.

What is your hatch rate if you don't mind me asking? I'm a newbie and just trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks. :)

It hovers between 75-100% on the Silkies. I'm working with the same as you, Brinsea Octagon 20 (mine is the old DX model) for incubation; I move them into the Minis for hatching. I have a whole fleet of Brinseas lol

I don't care for those brinsea brand they are way over priced some are good on price but I don't need to spend 100+ dollars on an incubator name brand when I can get a cheaper one that does the same spring and I am completely satisfied with the off brand one I bought I am glad I went with the off Brand instead of the over priced name brand one.
