I put pea gravel in the back of my run sand down the sides and organic mulch in the front for options of something to do!! I have one heat lamp in the run not the coop!! what is a good time to let them out in the morning?? put them away at night?? I don't want water in the coop because everyone says to keep it dry!! no heat lamps in the coop because of risk of fire!!! They don't seem to be bothered by the cold and are fast to eat the snow off my boots when I go in the run!!! what should I watch for?? how do I know what to worry about??? I have night mares they are all going to freeze!!! please help me

From everything I have read chickens should be fine as long as their not in the wind. I'm also paranoid about the cold but I brought all mine in the house as soon as my husband fell asleep

Supposedly they keep each other warm & take turns being on the outside of the flock

Had to post pics of my fluffies today -- they were having so much fun running around on the "people" side of the fence! Couldn't keep them still with those running legs of theirs! Sometimes they stood still but not often -- the new Cuckoo Breda pullet couldn't figure out why they were so excited to run and forage!

Those are some gorgeous silkies!! I think it's funny because your partridge silkie looks almost exactly like mine.

And I think it's so funny because my silkie was the first of my flock to start laying (at a whopping 5 months), and I could not imagine how my backyard flock would be without my silkie.
