Silkie thread!

awwww I want a chicken who sits on my lap!! rides on my shoulder. and FALLOWS ME!!!!
rite now our (whatever she is chicken and her chicks).. all Run for the other side of the pen.. but ohhh yeaa
they see me comming with the food containers and bottle of water they run to the door.. I open it and they scatter!!!!

I so hope in a few months I can Hatch some Silkey chicks. and raise them,

I'm hoping to get eggs from 2 diffrent hens. (and have them marked so I know) and get a roo out of one of them. and start hatching silks..

my kids are so excited to possibly each hatch a chick. althou I did not tell them yet that we could only keep 1 boy.. but then again there is always hatching more just so I can be sure to have 1 girl per kid LOL

Thank you, I will give it time

and when i learn to post pics i will as i will need help sexing them. the breeder told me its difficult when they are chicks and you have to leave it til they are older?

these arent my first chooks I have 4 warrens but got them at point of lay so knew they we're all girlies (they are so placid)

I've only got into chooks in the last few months and find them so relaxing i could watch them for hours

My chickens are all big ol lap babies. What I do when they are babies is I brood them where they can see me constantly around the house for the first 2 weeks, plus I get them out and I lay on the floor and let them roam all over me. I give them scrambled eggs or thier crumble mixed with yogurt as a treat, I do not let them eat treats out of a dish I put it in the palm of my hand and get them taking it there.\\, it is a little messy but they get over thier fear of hands really quick

I might add I don't work outside the home and I handle mess with the chicks 4 or more times a day LOL.

Just a friendly warning....don't let them ride on your shoulder. They will peck at anything shiny, including your eyeball when you least expect it. That can hurt or seriously injure you or your children. Hold them, sit them on your lap, pet them and interact, but do not let them within striking distance of your eyes. They don't mean to hurt, but even little silkies can peck very hard. When I go to the coop to give out treats, they go into a feeding frenzy and peck at my hands and arms as they grab the food from me. After they are certain the food is all gone, they come up to be held and snuggled. Silly chickens...I love them SOOOOO much!

Looking closely at my silkie chicks I notice that one of them has got 6 toes where the others have 5. would this be the rooster or an abnormality? soory for asking newbie questions as i said before i've not had silkies or chicks before

You need to join the ASBC, many Silkie breeders are listed there for b/b/s. Many do not sell hatching eggs but started birds and older.
