Silkie thread!

Here are a few that hatched recently with one of the parents (perhaps).

Just hatched. Parents are non bearded splash roo and either white pullet or the pullet u see below. I also have a black hen with gold leakage. That's also the chick once fluffed up in the last pic

What colour would you call this bearded pullet? looks like black with some white coming thru, silver partridge? blue?

Most likely white or buff (had a buff roo pass away not long ago)

Cuties atm. little fluff balls with helmets. wonder what colour this one is going to be? Fertility rate not very good. ended up with 6 chicks (2 frizzled cochin half breeds) from like 20 eggs.
Trying to get 2nd gen sizzle happening, closest I've gotten is everything else good except the comb is not walnut. will take pics of my roo grown up. He is here somewhere in these pages, brown almost red frizzle feathering.

I bought my first 4 silkies and just love them so far......but.....I have something strange going on.....one of them has a comb coming in that is clearly NOT a walnut shape! He/She has a poofed forehead, black skin, 5 toes and poofy feathers, but the wrong comb! Any ideas? I was thinking maybe he was a sizzle? His/her wing feathers coming in look thinner that the others and are pointing in several directions. What do ya'all think? The first pic is of my little blue silkie with the NORMAL comb and thicker wing feathers.

I noticed your round perch ...we give our silkies a 2x4 on its side to perch on they are always on it, do you find yours like a round perch ? Maybe I should try it

They have 2x4 perches in their coop and a driftwood log in their pen. The perch you're seeing in the picture is in their run. I've seen the other chickens on it but never the silkies

Being a sizzle won't change the comb shape just the feathers but the wing feathers look pretty smooth so I do t think you have a sizzle. Looks more like maybe in past generations, a different breed was mixed in or something.

I agree with the comment about some other breed being crossed in for the single comb to come out. I myself have been trying to create some sizzle by breeding female frizzled cochin to silkie roo.
Got a few babies with silkie type but single comb and frizzled feathering.
Later on if i breed back to silkies a few times I am bound to get some with silkies with single comb like you have.

So I have to ask, are silkie Roos able to get the job done with large fowl breeds? Mine seems to really have a thing for my big fluffy Orpington but I just can't see it working lol.

Takes a determined silkie roo to pull it off. I've had a few in the past that mananged to compete with the big hens. And a few that have ran screaming from the girls

Its a funny sight seeing them trying to mount and then the hens realise and turn around to fight off the roo.
Specially when the roo 1st learns and tries to mount older hens.
Makes me laugh seeing the hen chasing them around after they try to mate.
