Silkie thread!

That's good! I thought the more feathering the better, but as I said, I'm new to silkies. So from what you can tell from the pics, do you think it's worth picking up a couple more partridges and breeding them? I know it's hard to tell from pictures.... but does the toe spacing look right on him/her? I sure appreciate your input!!

To me it doesn't look bad. I've read that the fifth toe it is desirable not only to be present but to angle downwards towards the ground as to play some role in support of the foot. For me I like to see the 4th and 5th make a nice "Y" of sorts but I'm sure others that are more experienced than myself can give you better input.

Thank you! Yup, born 6/1. My daughter is already talking about showing her. Haha. I told her she needs to wait a bit on that. She is really calm, so if anything, she can use her for showmanship.

HA! HA! HA!! Pick ones later on to keep??? HA!HA!HA!! Like I would ever be able to get rid of them after I've raised them!! I get WAY too attached to their little fuzzy butts! But thanks for your input... I'll see what I can work out with the breeder!

I try and start sorting through the chicks early on and I try and to do it at regular intervals so that I'm culling (selling and giving away) a lot of them before I start getting really attached. Granted often you really need to keep them for awhile and really give them a chance to grow out but in theory I'd like to think having a good sorta system helps not having a ton of fuzzy butts around that I can't use even though I'd keep them all if I could!

Here is one of my silkie hens!!! I posted in another thread trying to find out what color she is! And we think she is chocolate! Supposedly not a really popular color to be seen!! So I'm excited about it! But what do y'all think she is?

Sorry about the picture the wind was blowing her feathers around!! But she usually has a pretty nice crest but it is a little ruff right now!!

Well, that sounds like a good system, if only I can make myself stick to it. I would definitely have to sell or give them away too, no way I could kill something just because it wasn't perfect! Hopefully I'll start to build up a little immunity to their cuteness and be able to part with some when the time comes. But right now I'm counting the hours until my new ones arrive.. I can't wait!

once they are old enough and the hens lay i will be selling their eggs a nice lady sold me some of her eggs for me to hatch after a coon got to mine now i am having to rebuild my flock. The lady showed her chickens and they always did good in the shows. hopefully when these cuties get old enough to show they will do great also. If i get to may roos out of this hatch i will be keeping 3 or 4 and selling the others just hope i can find someone close. they are different from my other babies that the coon killed these are very quiet and do not make as much noise. Later tonight i will be separating the colors for pictures so that i can get a better picture of them the pictures i have posted does not do them any justice.

Countrygirl911: when ever you get eggs from these please let me know. I would love to hatch some show birds. Thank You!!! They look great

Ok, here is a better pic of Little Head. I was able to get it while he/she was standing all proud on some bundles of paper I am letting deteriorate.

Also, today I had a cantalope massacre, and my for sure hen Minnesota Cuke (veggie tales) decided to be a mean brat! She was pecking and chasing off the Wyandotte girls! She even tried to take a chunk out of my finger! I mean, she clamped down and twisted her head back and forth like a pit bull trying to tear the stuffing out of a ball! I was like, HOLY COW! Whats that all about! She doesn't even weigh 2 pounds! And she's just being a rotten crab to girls who are much much bigger.

i sure will. my husband sits outside at night and shoots everything that could kill my chickens he has already killed 2 coons a mom and dad and a huge 6 foot 2 inch snake not sure what kind all i know it ugly and had black strips.

Thats what I have to do is buy a gun and act like your hubby does and kill them all.But I also have something you don't have is gators but they don't bother my chickens. I have a zoo here. I got from wild rabbits to gators, Bobcats are here to.And Thank You for offering me some eggs. that snake that he killed was a snake that kills all other snakes, So I leave them be
