But shes being treated. Its good to see her fluff coming back. The mites did a number on her a couple of weeks ago!

I still love her even though shes not the prettiest thing right now

OK, new to chickens... I was in the TSC and looking thru all the stuff they have for chickens, and there's dust for them. Now, I don't have mites are anything, but should I sure it anyway? And I also read somewhere else about raising chicken that I should have get "something" earth? I can't remember the name, but it said to put it in the food to keep internal parasites away... also put in for their dust bathes What are they talking about and where do I get it? I haven't seen it at tsc

If you don't have mites now, you probably will in the future so might as well be prepared. As far as diatomaceous earth goes, it has an almost cult like following but I don't think it does anything.

Have to agree with Racuda~~scientific studies have repeatedly shown that D.E. (diatamacious earth) does NOTHING to prevent internal parasites; but there are poultry owners who swear by the stuff.

I've raised poultry for over 40 yrs.....never had mites on any birds---this year I did. Get the permethrin dust or spray to use as a preventative, because once the mites DO invade, they're extremely difficult to irradicate. Pyrethrin is great for lice, but it won't kill or prevent lice.

I use Ivermectin drop on each month to prevent internal & external parasites.

Good luck

You use the Ivermectin each month? I didn't realize you could use it that often. Isn't it like a 2-3 week withdrawel period? How do you ever have eggs doing it so often?? I used it a few months ago...works great.

Wondering about this too. I've read it lasts 4-6 weeks.
